HAMPTON, Va. – Shawn Balluzzo, an 11-time modified track champion at Langley Speedway, died following a crash at the Virginia race track on Saturday.
Track officials confirmed the news of the 64-year-old’s passing with a post on social media Sunday morning.

Social media reports indicated that Balluzzo’s modified struck an opening in the track in turn two. He later passed away from injuries suffered in the crash.
Balluzzo was a dominant force in the track’s modified division. Since 2006 he captured 11 out of a possible 13 track championships, winning dozens of races along the way. He earned more track championships than anyone else in the history of Langley Speedway.
Last year he won 15-straight modified features at the four-tenths-mile asphalt oval, failing to win only once. He finished second in the lone event he didn’t win last year.
