DELMAR, Del. – Officials from the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By Sunoco has announced new changes to the series schedule for the month of August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to prolonged restrictions in New York State, the Hustlin the High Banks event at Woodhull Raceway scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11 has been placed on hold by the Short Track Super Series and Woodhull Raceway promoters Terry and Nikki Brewer.
The Aug. 11 date will now be filled by the rescheduled Diamond State 50 at Delaware Int’l Speedway in Delmar, Del., an event that had been pushed back from its late-May original spot on the schedule.
The Diamond State 50 will once again be made possible by the support of title sponsor Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply based in Hurlock, Md., and will feature both the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman in Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central events.
The Diamond State 50 will be the first of two series events in the First State in August. The annual Blast at the Beach co-promotion involving Eric Kormann and BD Motorsports Media LLC at Georgetown Speedway takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 25 with the STSS Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman headlining the program.
“It’s been a challenging year for auto racing in New York State,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “Looking at the scope of the current restrictions, we felt it best to make the move now and adjust the Woodhull date. Should something change we will obviously work to make the event up, but timing is critical and the current landscape for racing in Delaware is much more favorable for our type of event.”
Deyo went on to thank Hurlock Auto & Speed for assisting in the ‘Diamond State 50’ co-promotion with longtime Delaware International Speedway operator Charles Cathell.
“Without Alfred and Cheryl (Hughes), Shawn (Ward) and Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply committing their support, we would not have been able to get this event in the books.”
