The 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between September 19 and November 10 in the UAE. Brijesh Patel, the IPL Governing Council chairman, told ESPNcricinfo that the final could be played on November 8 or 10, with a definitive decision expected in near future.
The chances of the IPL taking place got a boost after the ICC's decision to postpone the 2020 T20 World Cup, which was scheduled for October-November in Australia, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. With that window freed up, the IPL final can take place on November 8 or 10 to give the Indian players enough time to quarantine for two weeks in Australia for the Test series scheduled to start on December 3 in Brisbane.

The IPL was originally scheduled to start at the end of March but the ongoing pandemic and the travel restrictions that were put in place by the Indian government, led to an indefinite postponement. With the rising cases in India, the BCCI also decided to hold the tournament in the UAE, finalising Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah as the three main venues for 60 matches.
