DELMAR, Del. – For the first time since March, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By Sunoco returns to Delaware not once, but twice, in August.
Delaware’s two dirt tracks are thrust into the spotlight with August STSS events: the Hurlock Auto & Speed Diamond State 50 at Delaware Int’l Speedway in Delmar, Del., Tuesday, Aug. 11 and the ‘Blast at the Beach’ at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Both events are open to in-person attendance and will be streamed live by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate Dirt Track Digest TV.
The Diamond State 50 – a traditional event at the Cathell family’s Delaware Int’l Speedway – annually brings the Northeast’s biggest stars to Delmarva to compete at the half-mile clay oval.
The STSS Modifieds take part in race five of the Velocita-USA South Region presented by Design for Vision and Sunglass Central in a 50-lap event offering a total purse structure of more than $25,000 ($5,000-to-win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green).
STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks complete the program.
Matt Sheppard (STSS Modified) and Jim Housworth (STSS Crate 602 Sportsman) topped the Diamond State 50 a year ago.
Two weeks after the Diamond State 50, attention turns approximately 20 miles to the northeast when the historic Georgetown Speedway plays host to the Blast at the Beach annual co-promotion involving BD Motorsports Media LLC and Eric Kormann on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
This event has been run annually at Georgetown since 2014.
STSS Modifieds race for a $6,000 winner’s share in a 35-lap battle around the progressively banked clay track. STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks complete the program.
Billy Pauch Jr. (STSS Modified) and Thomas Sherby (STSS Crate 602 Sportsman) were last year’s Blast at the Beach winners.
