Perrego Stops Friesen In Fonda Finale

FONDA, N.Y. – Anthony Perrego put an ending to Stewart Friesen’s winning ways at Fonda Speedway Sunday, taking the 30-lap season finale at the half-mile dirt oval.

A caution on the sixth lap for Darwin Greene allowed Perrego the opportunity to get around polesitter Billy Decker during the restart. Perrego would go on to lead the rest of the feature.

“I found something on the entry to the corners,” Perrego said. “He was driving away from me and I was not steering well when entering the bottom. I was half tight and then snapping loose. I found something way on the top there and kept it wound up.”

This is the first time Perrego has beat Friesen on his home turf, something not a lot of people have been able to do since 2015. Friesen ended up second to Perrego Sunday evening.

“It’s pretty crazy the run he was on here,” Perrego said. “To come here to his home playground and get a win against him is big. Last year we had some good cars here and Friesen beat us. I learned not to go on the bottom of (turn) four and put that in the memory bank.”

This is Perrego’s second victory in as many attempts in this particular race car after previously scoring a victory at Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway. He hopes that bodes well for the rest of the year.

“Second time out with this car and second win,” Perrego said. “I think for Port Royal (during Speed Showcase 200) we need to find a little more speed because everyone will be good there. To get rolling here late in the year is something to be happy about.”

Following Perrego and Friesen across the finish line Sunday were Adam McAuliffe, Jessica Friesen and Josh Hohenforst.

The crate 602 sportsman feature was won by Bobby Hackel IV, Luke Horning claimed the pro stock main event, Hunter Sanchez was the winner of the street stock feature and Ken Hollenbeck topped the four-cylinder feature.
