Mitchell Marsh sustains ankle injury in Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL opener

Sunrisers Hyderabad will wait on Mitchell Marsh's fitness after the fast-bowling allrounder went down in his first over of their IPL 2020 opening game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Marsh came on to bowl in the fifth over the Royal Challengers innings, but seemed to twist his ankle while attempting to field an Aaron Finch punch in his follow through. Though he bowled two more balls, he had to go off the field with Vijay Shankar completing the over.

Marsh also came out to bat, though he was visibly limping. He batted only at No.10, coming out because the Sunrisers suffered a collapse to lose the game by 10 runs. He was out first ball though, and had to be helped off the field by the Sunrisers' support staff.

After the match, Sunrisers captain David Warner admitted that Marsh's injury didn't "look great", and said he would be going for an X-ray.

"Doesn't look great," Warner told Star, the host broadcaster. "A lot of courage from him to walk out there and try his best, but it was unfortunate tonight. He's got to get an X-ray, hopefully it's not too bad. It doesn't look great. Obviously what you saw out there, it was quite painful, he can't put any weight on it. Fingers crossed."

Marsh was expected to provide a solid bowling option while also shoring up the Sunrisers' inexperienced middle order. His unavailability is likely to cause a few selection dilemmas for the Sunrisers, who also have Kane Williamson sitting out with a quad injury.
