A number of key decisions will be made during the historic online AGM, not least who will be elected host city for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships. Durban (South Africa) and Düsseldorf (Germany) are the two cities competing for the opportunity to host the most traditional and prestigious ITTF event, having presented their bids in full last week.

There will also be discussions regarding the future of the World Championships and the deadline set for prospective host cities to bid for the 2024 edition.

ITTF Deputy President Khalil Al-Mohannadi, ITTF Executive Vice President of Finance Petra Sörling, ITTF CEO Steve Dainton, ITTF Secretary General Raul Calin and ITTF Chief Financial Officer Michael Brown will be speaking from Doha, Qatar, to deliver messages across a number of key topics.

ITTF President Thomas Weikert is unable to travel to Doha, having recently been in close contact with a COVID-19 positive patient and is awaiting his test result.

There will be a special report on the impact of COVID-19 on global table tennis, as the sport prepares for a return to action via the #RESTART series in November 2020.

The ITTF has been keeping its delegates fully up to date across all key areas with six interactive video conferences organised in the build-up to the AGM, which you can recap here:

1) ITTF Foundation

2) High Performance and Development

3) Governance: Propositions and Resolutions to AGM

4) Finance Forum

5) World Table Tennis

6) 2023 World Championships

“We are very excited to be holding the first ever online AGM in our history to culminate a very intense month of interactive video conferences. It has been fantastic to see the level of response and interaction of all our stakeholders, pulling together in these unprecedented and highly challenging times. The way that the Table Tennis family has adapted and reacted to conditions posed by the pandemic has highlighted how united we are as an international federation and we will all continue to carry forward our plans to keep driving our sport onto the next level.” – Raul Calin, ITTF Secretary General

You can watch the ITTF AGM live on the ITTF’s official YouTube channel or itTV from 13:00 CEST on Monday 28th September 2020.
