NURBURG, Germany – Nico Hulkenberg will drive for the BWT Racing Point F1 Team in this weekend’s Formula 1 Eifel Grand Prix, after Lance Stroll fell ill overnight.
Lance did not feel 100 percent Saturday morning and the team made the decision to pull him out of the race car for the rest of the event.
Hulkenberg previously filled for Sergio Perez at Racing Point during the two Silverstone Circuit events earlier this season, is familiar with the car and team already, and was in nearby Cologne to be able to return.
This weekend marks his third F-1 grand prix weekend of the season. His best effort so far was a seventh-place finish after starting third in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.
“He’s definitely talented and definitely deserves to be on the Formula 1 grid,” Sky Sports’ Nico Rosberg, a past F-1 champion, said of Hulkenberg. “But it’s a different ball game this weekend, because at Silverstone he could build up to it in every free practice session.
“And now (going) from the sofa into qualifying – it doesn’t get harder than that.”
