McMahan Parts Ways With Car Owner Tom Buch

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After three seasons driving for car owner Tom Buch, Paul McMahan confirmed Monday night that he has departed the team and will seek a new opportunity.

McMahan finished fourth in All Star Circuit of Champions points twice while driving the Buch No. 13 sprint car, first in 2018 and again this season.

The 2018 season was McMahan’s best with Buch, as the duo earned two All Star wins together, part of a year that included 13 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes in 38 starts.

Over the next two years, Buch and McMahan were never quite able to recapture that winning magic, but they did register another 17 top fives and 41 top 10s during that period.

McMahan noted in a statement posted to social media Monday night that “all good things must come to an end” and added his appreciation to Buch for their tenure together.

“As of today, Tom Buch and I have parted ways,” McMahan wrote. “I can’t thank Tom enough for the great three years we had together; we are very good friends and this was hard for both of us, but at the end of the day you need sponsor money to go racing. I want to also thank (crew chief) Sean Strausbaugh and Kurtis Williamson for all their hard work and dedication the last three years, as well as to Skye Strausbaugh for all she’s done selling shirts and picking me up at airports and dropping me off even when she gives me all sorts of crap later for it.

“I am looking at my options for next season, as I’m not ready to call it quits yet,” McMahan added. “Thank you to all of my partners that have supported me throughout (this time) and I hope to continue with them in the future.”

McMahan is the second driver who raced full time on the All Star Circuit of Champions tour in 2020 to depart their ride. Zeb Wise left Sam McGhee Motorsports earlier on Monday.
