SALEM, Ind. – Brett Hudson marched to the front from the 19th starting position to win the 32nd running of the Halloween 200 for the Lucas Oil Great American Stock Cars at Salem Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Hudson was the race leader when the caution flag waved with 62 laps left. During the caution period Hudson made the second of his two required pit stops, dropping him outside the top-10 for the ensuing restart.

With 40 laps left Hudson had moved into third around Chuck Barnes Jr. before quickly dispatching Todd Kempf for second around the outside with 36 laps left.

One in second Hudson quickly ran down Frankie Kimmel, who was working his way through traffic. With 32 laps left Kimmel went to the inside of a slower car coming out of turn four, opening the door for Hudson to blast around the top entering turn one to take the race lead.

A caution with 11 laps to go allowed the field to close the gap on Hudson, who had stretched his lead out a bit over Kimmel after taking the race lead.

During the restart Hudson was able to hold the lead, but Barnes was able to slip past Kimmel to take second and set off in pursuit of Hudson. Barnes tried to stay close, but Hudson was able to hang on and lead the final laps to win the Halloween 200 for the fifth time in his career and for the first time since 2016.

“The whole weekend was basically a real struggle. We fought the car all day yesterday, all morning today, one problem after another it seemed like,” Hudson said. “I was real happy. I couldn’t believe the car handled as good as it did in the race. It kind of surprised me. On the pit stops we didn’t change anything. I’d say we had it dialed in even though we fought all the problems all weekend.”

Barnes settled for second, followed by Mike Todd, Skeeter Crum and Shawn Smith.
