Coach: McKinley to pay after tweet on Falcons

Outside linebacker Takk McKinley added to an already uncomfortable season for the Atlanta Falcons when he turned to social media Wednesday to offer his thoughts on the team not trading him.

McKinley said the Falcons turned down fifth- and sixth-round draft pick offers from multiple teams despite his request to be traded. The fourth-year veteran also said that he requested a trade last year but Atlanta turned down a second-round pick offer for him then.

McKinley's decision to share details of possible trades on social media is unusual, and it wasn't taken well by the Falcons.

"Takk will definitely be held accountable for his actions and everything that goes with it," Falcons interim coach Raheem Morris said. "That's with him missing today and all of the things he's missed in the past. You definitely have to go through all the issues and go through all the stuff you have to deal with. You have to deal with it as an organization. You have to hit him right in the face."

McKinley, a 2017 first-round pick by Atlanta, has played only 81 snaps in four games for the Falcons this season and registered one sack. He has 17.5 sacks over his career -- as he noted in his tweet -- but has seen his totals decrease from seven sacks in 2018 to 3.5 sacks last year.

The Falcons declined to pick up McKinley's fifth-year option, which carried a $10.3 million price tag.
