Toss West Indies chose to bowl vs New Zealand

West Indies have chosen to bowl first in the second Test against New Zealand, hoping to exploit a green pitch at the Basin Reserve. The surface has a grass cover of 17mm. Teams bowling first have won six and drawn one of the last seven Tests at the venue.

West Indies are playing two debutants, both coming in as a result of forced changes, with wicketkeeper-batsman Joshua da Silva and fast bowler Chemar Holder replacing the injured Shane Dowrich and bereaved Kemar Roach respectively.

For New Zealand, Will Young is expected to move down to No. 3 to take the place of Kane Williamson, who is on paternity leave. The return of BJ Watling, meanwhile, sees Tom Blundell give up the wicketkeeping gloves and move back up to the top of the order alongside stand-in captain Tom Latham.

New Zealand: 1 Tom Latham (capt), 2 Tom Blundell, 3 Will Young, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 BJ Watling (wk), 7 Daryl Mitchell, 8 Kyle Jamieson, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Neil Wagner, 11 Trent Boult.

West Indies: 1 Kraigg Brathwaite, 2 John Campbell, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Jermaine Blackwood, 5 Shamarh Brooks, 6 Roston Chase, 7 Jason Holder (capt), 8 Joshua da Silva (wk), 9 Alzarri Joseph, 10 Chemar Holder (debut), 11 Shannon Gabriel.
