Solskjaer adamant he can handle United pressure

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he can handle the pressure of managing Manchester United.

The spotlight on Solskjaer's job at Old Trafford has intensified following their Champions League exit at the hands of RB Leipzig

But ahead of another crucial clash against Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, Solskjaer says he still believes he is the right man.

"There's always pressure on you when you manage Man United," Solskjaer told a news conference on Friday.

"That's something I had to think about when I accepted the role. Do I have what it takes to be in such a situation? Can you handle setbacks? Can you handle success? I think I can."

Solskjaer will be buoyed ahead of the derby by his record against City counterpart Pep Guardiola.

The Norwegian led his team to three wins out of four last season including a 2-0 win at Old Trafford in their last meeting in March.

Manchester derby pick'em: Bruno Fernandes or De Bruyne?

Steve Nicol has an interesting take whether he'd choose Bruno Fernandes over Kevin De Bruyne right now.

Paul Pogba is in the squad after coming on as a second-half substitute during the 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig and amid doubts about his long-term future, Solskjaer says the Frenchman is focused on United.

"I think I said during the week that this is a team game and Paul is part of this team," he said. "He's got the hunger and appetite to play and wants to play. He wants to train and he trains.

"There's been other players refusing to train and refusing to play -- they're not here anymore of course -- but Paul's not once done that.

"He's just focused on performing when he gets a chance. That's the good thing about Paul. He's got the quality and the desire to do well when he comes on, like he did against Leipzig. He had a positive impact."

Despite the swirl of speculation about Solskjaer's position following the Champions League exit, United head into the weekend one point and one place above City in the table.

He is one of the few managers to have a positive record against Guardiola and the City boss says he has been impressed with the job Solskjaer has done on the other side of Manchester.

"For me, he's an exceptional manager," said Guardiola. "I cannot say much because I am not there in the locker room, but how he handled the team and how he represents United all around the world.

"I know, Ole knows, everyone knows it depends on results, but I have a high opinion about his work at United."
