ALTON, Va. – Lee Pulliam Performance announced Monday that 15-year-old Jonathan Shafer will pilot the No. 91 next season in CARS Late Model Stock Tour competition.
Shafer, from Ashland, Ohio, contested the majority of the CARS Tour races this past season and looks to build on what he learned during his rookie year in 2021.
He moves over to the Pulliam team from Nelson Motorsports, and veteran crew chief Winston Brooks will serve as Shafer’s signal caller on top of the pit box next year.
“First of all, I am very grateful and honored to drive for Lee Pulliam Performance in 2021,” said Shafer. “I’m especially excited to have Lee as my driver coach, and the opportunity to work with a great crew chief like Winston Brooks. Last year was more of a learning year for me. Moving on into 2021, I feel with the equipment and expertise that Lee Pulliam Performance can provide, that I can win races and contend for a championship.
“I feel very privileged to work with a legend like Lee Pulliam,” Shafer continued. “It’s not every day that a driver gets to drive for a team owner that has been so successful in late model racing. I can’t wait to work with the LPP crew moving into the new year.”
“I’m really excited to have Jonathan signed to drive for us next season and I feel like, with Winston in his ear and calling the shots, he will have a great opportunity at a breakout season on the tour,” said team owner and four-time NASCAR Weekly Series Division I national champion Lee Pulliam. “It’s easy to see Jonathan’s desire to learn and win races and I feel like our team gives him a great chance at achieving his goals.
“Our goal is to have the best two cars at the track each and every week, and I think with the teams we are assembling here at Lee Pulliam Performance, we will have a great chance each and every weekend next season.”
