LAS VEGAS – Kevin Harvick, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will lead the field to the green flag for Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube.
Harvick received the Busch Pole Award courtesy of the highest metric score among the 38 cars entered to compete.
Lap speed is weighted at 15 percent, previous race finish at 25 percent for the driver and owner results and owner points position at 35 percent to calculate the final metric score.
Harvick earned the pole with a metric score of 4.1, factoring in his fifth-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the sixth-fastest lap from the event and his runner-up seeding in the point standings after three of 36 races this season.
Homestead winner William Byron will join Harvick on the front row, with Kyle Larson and Martin Truex Jr. sharing the second row at the 1.5-mile Sin City oval.
Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell, currently fourth in points with Front Row Motorsports, lines up fifth alongside current Cup Series point leader Denny Hamlin.
Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and Brad Keselowski fill out the first five rows of the starting grid ahead of the fourth race of the season at NASCAR’s top level.
Two-time defending race winner Joey Logano rolls off 15th for Team Penske Sunday.
