Heat Lineups Set For Food City Dirt Race

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Thursday afternoon, NASCAR officials revealed the lineups for the heat races that will help set the starting grid for the inaugural Food City Dirt Race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

The grids for the four 15-lap heats were determined by a random pill draw. Quin Houff, Brad Keselowski, Alex Bowman and Corey LaJoie will start on the pole for their respective heats.

Only green-flag laps in each of the four heat races will count. No overtime rule will be in effect for the heats, but free-pass and wave-around procedures will be utilized.

The lineup for the 250-lap feature on Sunday will be determined by a formula that awards points for heat finishing position and bonus points for every position advanced during the heat race.

Each heat winner will earn 10 points, dropping by one point per position back to a single point for 10th.

Drivers then earn one passing point for every position gained during their heat race, with no point deductions for those drivers losing positions in their heat race.

Ties in combined point totals will be broken by the current car owner point standings.

Of note, Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway winner Kyle Larson – a 46-time winner in various dirt cars last season who has already won in a dirt late model and dirt midget this year – starts second in heat one.

Christopher Bell, a past USAC national midget champion, rolls off eighth in the second heat.

The full starting lineups for all four NASCAR Cup Series heat races are below.

Coverage of the heat races for the Food City Dirt Race begins at 6 p.m. ET Saturday, live on FS1.
