TULSA, Okla. – Reigning Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget League champion Jake Neuman brought an end to Buddy Kofoid’s four-race winning streak during the finale of the Turnpike Challenge at Port City Raceway on Sunday evening.
Neuman started the 30-lap feature fourth, but made his way to second quickly. Joe B. Miller soared to the lead early, but a caution in turns three and four for Brenham Crouch reset the field.
During the restart Neuman threw a slide job and it stuck, allowing him to take the lead from Miller. The field started battling for position behind Neuman, with Cannon McIntosh and Miller battling for second, eventually leading to Miller spinning out.
Neuman maintained his position at the front of the field, but behind him Kofoid and Emerson Axsom were trying to hunt him down. Neuman began lapping slower traffic, which gave Kofoid and Axsom the chance to catch up.
Navigating traffic masterfully, Neuman held serve to earn his first victory of the young POWRi season. Axsom finished second, with Kofoid’s winning streak ending with a third-place finish.
Daison Pursley and McIntosh completed the top-five.
