BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Lucas Oil Raceway officials are promoting the A.J. Foyt Championship to be run at the .686-mile asphalt track this season.

The A.J. Foyt Championship will be a season-long points title for drivers competing in USAC Silver Silver Crown, sprint cars and midgets at the track this season.

The A.J. Foyt Championship, which will be contested across eight races, recognizes champions dating back to the birth of oval racing at Lucas Oil Raceway. It is named after A.J. Foyt, who won the first oval race at the facility in May of 1961.

This championship format puts an emphasis on race wins, feature participation and furthermore, gives an advantage to drivers who can excel in multiple classes of open-wheel racing.

Former winners of the A.J. Foyt Championship include Jeff Gordon, Parnelli Jones, Ryan Newman, Roger McCluskey, Rich Vogler, Ken Schrader, Dave Steele, Merle Bettenhausen, Mel Kenyon, and Kenny Irwin Jr. . View the full list of former winners here.

Season winners of the A.J. Foyt Championship will have their names etched into the A.J. Foyt Championship Trophy — the beautiful silver-clad icon of history which represents this competition.

The latest edition of the A.J. Foyt Championship will be contested during four events at Lucas Oil Raceway this season.

The Carb Classic on May 28 will feature midgets and the USAC Silver Crown Series, while the Thursday Night Thunder Homecoming on June 17 includes midgets and pavement sprint cars.

Midgets will also be on the card during the July 3 SRX event at the track.

Finally, the Aug. 13-14 Hoosier Classic will see sprint cars, midgets and Silver Crown machines in competition.
