MOORESVILLE, N.C. – David Gilliland Racing driver Taylor Gray underwent surgery Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., for a fractured L4 vertebra after being involved in a car accident Wednesday night.
Gray will also undergo another surgery in the coming days for a fractured left foot and ankle due to the accident. Gray is expected to make a full recovery.
Gray was involved in a single-car accident in Statesville, N.C., Wednesday evening. No other details regarding the accident have been made public.
The 16-year-old was scheduled to make his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start in the No. 17 David Gilliland Racing Ford at Richmond (Va.) Raceway on April 17, but will now be forced to miss the race.
As a result, the No. 17 has been withdrawn from the Richmond event.
