Nasse Earns Bragging Rights & $10,000 In Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. – He had to wait an extra day, but Stephen Nasse made the most of a trip to Greenville-Pickens Speedway for the running of the HarrisonsWorkwear.com 150 Sunday afternoon.

The race, co-sanctioned by the CARS Super Late Model Tour and Southern Super Series, was postponed by rain Saturday.

Nasse, the defending Southern Super Series champion, held off current CARS Super Late Model Tour points leader Carson Kvapil, who controlled most of the race.

Sammy Smith rounded out the podium after get passed by Nasse during the final restart with three laps left. He got stuck on the outside line during the restart and that allowed Kvapil to pass him for the runner-up spot.

Jett Noland set fast time in qualifying, but it was Kvapil who would lead the field to green after the Southern Super Series redraw procedure. Kvapil would dominate the first 104 laps of the event before Smith would get his turn at the point after teams pitted for two fresh tires during the lap-100 competition caution.

Smith made things look easy, pulling away from his competition by 1.5 seconds with less than 20 laps left. However, it was Nasse who chased Smith down in the closing laps, knocking off .20 seconds a lap to close the gap.

Luck was on Nasse’s side when the caution flag waved with three laps left when Jake Garcia spun and collected Hudson Hadler. The incident led to a red flag for cleanup, setting up the field for a three-lap dash to the finish.

Nasse would get the restart he needed and clear Smith, pulling away to the $10,000 top prize and bragging rights for the Southern Super Series.

“I always seem to get the short end of the stick on the restarts. Sometimes it’s my own doing and others it’s just the short end of the stick,” Nasse said. “I tried to get Sammy the best I could and we were able to get a pretty good jump on him. I appreciate Carson driving me clean there, he could have given me the boot for sure.”

Defending CARS Super Late Model Tour champion Matt Craig finished fourth while NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular Chandler Smith finished fifth.

The race was broadcast live by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate Pit Row TV.

The finish:

Stephen Nasse, Carson Kvapil, Sammy Smith, Matt Craig, Chandler Smith, Jett Noland, Jeff Fultz, T.J. Duke, Kyle Plott, Jeff Batten, Garrett Smithley, Justin Crider, Nick Neri, Randy Gentry, Jake Garcia, Hudson Hadler, Mike Garrett, Perry Patino, Zane Smith, Lee Tissot, Connor Okrzesik.
