Toss Pakistan chose to bat vs South Africa

Both South Africa and Pakistan wanted to bat first at the Wanderers and the hosts initially thought they had won the right to it when match referee Andy Pycroft said the coin had landed tail-side up after Babar Azam called heads. On checking again, Pycroft corrected himself, and said it was actually a heads and in Azam's favour, so Pakistan chose to set South Africa a target.

They will have to do so without prolific opener Fakhar Zaman, who was ruled out of this match with a rash on his leg. Sharjeel Khan, making his first international appearance since the 2017 spot-fixing scandal, was named in the XI in Zaman's place. Pakistan also made one change to their bowling attack, aimed at improved death bowling: Mohammad Hasnain in place of Haris Rauf.

South Africa named the same XI that lost at this venue on Saturday, which meant no room for Kyle Verreynne, with Pite van Biljon, Wihan Lubbe and Heinrich Klaasen making up the middle order as Rassie van der Dussen has not yet recovered from injury. The match is a must-win for South Africa if they hope to win the final series of the home summer. This is the second of four matches and victory for Pakistan would ensure they have at least a share of the trophy.
