RICHMOND, Va. – Martin Truex Jr. will look to pick up right where he left off in the NASCAR Cup Series during Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.
Truex, the driver of the No. 19 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing who won the most recent Cup Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, received the Busch Pole Award courtesy of the highest metric score among the 38 cars entered to compete.
Lap speed is weighted at 15 percent, previous race finish at 25 percent for the driver and owner results and owner points position at 35 percent to calculate the final metric score.
Truex earned the pole with a metric score of 1.95, factoring in his recent win at Martinsville, the fifth-fastest lap from that event and his runner-up seeding in the point standings after eight of 36 races this season.
He’ll be joined on the front row by teammate Denny Hamlin, with Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet drivers Chase Elliott and William Byron sharing the second row of the grid.
Joey Logano will start fifth Sunday, followed by Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, Christopher Bell, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch.
