De Vries Survives Wild Formula E Finish

VALENCIA, Spain – Nyck de Vries was the winner in a wild finish to Saturday’s Formula E event at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Energy management proved vital in the incident-packed and rain-hit race. De Vries sat behind race-long leader Antonio Felix da Costa throughout the race and conserved the energy in his car as he waited to make his move.

As it happened, that attack turned into a two-lap sprint following the final caution period. However, only those who conserved their usable energy had enough power left in their cells to complete the extended race distance.

Dutchman de Vries drove by da Costa as the Portuguese and many around him slowed with the race running beyond its anticipated finish.

“What a race! To be honest, I’m even happier today than when I won my first race in Diriyah, especially with this victory coming as such a surprise,” said de Vries. “After the really tough race weekend in Rome and the five-place grid penalty for this race, I definitely wasn’t expecting it. But it’s a fantastic way for me to bounce back. Many thanks to the whole team, who executed the strategy perfectly today, and of course to Stoffel, who fought his way from the back of the field to the front. Today has turned out to be a simply fabulous day for our team.”

Nico Mueller and Stoffel Vandoorne followed de Vries across the finish line. Nick Cassidy and Rene Rast completed the top-five.
