Proceedings conducted on the World Championships format, three players per team, with a maximum of five matches should a fixture last the full distance. Selecting Rogelio Castro, Miguel Lara and Ricardo Villa, in their one and only contest of the day, the Mexican trio posted a 3-0 win against the Honduran combination of Cesar Reyes, Guillermo Muñoz and Alfredo Morazan.
No compassion afforded; it was the same from the women’s team – two fixtures completed, on both occasions 3-0 wins.
Arantxa Cossio Aceves, Clio Barcenas and Monica Muñoz combined to beat the Honduran trio of Raquel Discuo, Rebecca Ayestas and Reina Solis, the no.5 seeds, before, with Marbella Aceves replacing Clio Barcenas, in a similar vein an impressive win was recorded against the host nation’s Sharon Diaz, Nicole Granados and Paolo Maroto, the no.4 seeds.
Likewise, Guatemala, the second seeds in both disciplines, ended the day unbeaten; only marginally more tested.
Similar to Mexico in the men’s team event, just one fixture on the day’s schedule, represented by Hector Gatica, Allan Gutierrez and Kevin Montufar a 3-1 margin of victory was the outcome in opposition to El Salvador’s Jaime Galeano, Job Martinez and Diego Orantes, the no.5 seeds. The one win for El Salvador was recorded in the opening match of the engagement when Diego Orantes accounted for Kevin Montufar (11-6, 6-11, 11-3, 11-4).
Success for the Guatemalan men, in an even more commanding manner, it was the same for the women.
Fielding the trio of Lucia Cordero, Hidalynn Zapata and Andrea Montufar, a 3-0 success was recorded against El Salvador’s Cecilia Orantes, Gabriela Suarez and Keren Constanza, before recording the same margin of victory against an unchanged Honduras trio.
Play in both team events concludes on Wednesday 19th May.
