A ferocious backhand often threw his opponent into panic mode. Although he lost, the dream for Batix is to play for Cameroon at the Olympic Games.
Batix’s romance with table tennis started when he was seven and his passion for the sport has continued to grow. Now he plays for the second division team, La Garde Tennis de Table, in the French League.
The Montpellier-based athlete made his debut for his native country at the 2021 ITTF African Championships. He showed his quality against Omotayo, to the admiration of the home fans.
“I am so excited to be playing for my fatherland although it was a bit difficult because I was approached in 2020. Now I am happy competing in my first senior tournament for Cameroon. I knew nothing about African table tennis prior to this tournament but my favourite player has always been Quadri Aruna because of his unique style of play. I am looking forward to meeting him here in Yaoundé.” Ylane Batix
Currently, Ylane Batix is a student at Lycée Françoise Combes School, Montpellier.
“I am really impressed with what I have seen so far in the competition, particularly with the quality of play. I came here basically to learn and garner experience from the top players. I think I can become African champion in the next three to five years, but my main priority remains the Olympic Games. There is no doubt that it is a tall order, but I am ready to work for it and earn it as well.” Ylane Batix
