New Zealand bowl first as ODI series gets underway

New Zealand win toss, bowl vs England

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl in the first of five ODIs against England in Bristol.

Off spinner Charlie Dean will make her international debut, having been part of the England squad for the T20 leg of New Zealand's tour without playing a game.

The hosts have opted to open with Lauren Winfield-Hill, despite adding Danni Wyatt - opener throughout the T20 series, which England won 2-1 - to their ODI squad. Wyatt was overlooked for the 50-over matches against India earlier in the summer and she played the last of her 77 ODIs in New Zealand in February.

Freya Davies and Kate Cross join Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone in the England bowling attack.

New Zealand fast bowler Lea Tahuhu will make her first appearance of the tour, having undergone surgery to remove a pre-cancerous mole on her foot earlier this year. Lauren Down also comes into the White Ferns side to bolster their batting line-up.

The match has been named the Royal London x ACE One Day International to celebrate the Bristol launch of the ACE (African Caribbean Engagement) programme, giving young black people in the city opportunities to become professional cricketers. Bristol is the third city to link up with the ACE programme, chaired by Ebony Rainford-Brent, after London and Birmingham.

England: Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Winfield-Hill, Heather Knight (capt), Nat Sciver, Amy Jones (wk), Sophia Dunkley, Katherine Brunt, Charlie Dean, Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Freya Davies

New Zealand: Lauren Down, Suzie Bates, Maddy Green, Amy Satterthwaite, Sophie Devine (capt), Brooke Halliday, Katey Martin (wk), Hannah Rowe, Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu, Leigh Kasperek
