Premiership: Worcester 23-31 Gloucester - Cherry and Whites claim first win of season

Ben Morgan, Jason Woodward and Chris Harris all scored second-half tries as Gloucester beat Worcester to earn their first Premiership win of the season.

Scotland international Adam Hastings scored 16 points on his first start for the Cherry and Whites.

Worcester replacements Kyle Hatherell and Sione Vailanu scored late tries.

But Warriors also had one of their two co-captains, once-capped England forward Chris Hill, sent off late on for a tip tackle on Lloyd Evans.

In rain-sodden conditions at Sixways, the visitors led 12-3 at the break thanks to four penalties from the fit-again Hastings, neatly sandwiched round one for Worcester from Gloucester old boy Owen Williams.

Within two minutes of the restart, Warriors reduced the arrears when Andrew Davidson was penalised for a side entry which allowed Williams to kick his second penalty.

But, when the Wales outside half then attempted to kick a third, he slipped as he made contact with the ball, the kick sailed wide and he hobbled off with a leg injury to be replaced by Billy Searle.

After Searle kicked a straightforward penalty to reduce the arrears to 12-9, Worcester were reduced to 14 men for the first time when he was sin-binned for a deliberate offside - and it proved crucial.

England number eight Morgan got the game's first try when he finished off a driving line-out before a superbly judged cross-field kick from Hastings was collected by England winger Jonny May who fed Woodward to score.

With Searle back from the bin, Hatherell forced his way over before Hill's late red card. But Gloucester sealed victory when returning Scotland and Lions centre Harris scored from another cross-field Hastings kick.

Worcester Warriors head coach Jonathan Thomas:

"There wasn't a huge lot between the teams but they kicked better than us and built the scoreboard nicely. And, unlike the two previous weeks, we lost all the 50/50 collisions, on the floor and in the air.

"We didn't adapt to the conditions quickly enough and didn't put enough pressure on their scrum-half.

"We worked our way back into at the start of the second half but then we gave away the yellow card and that was indicative of the match."

Gloucester head coach George Skivington:

"Our half-backs Ben Meehan and Adam Hastings were brilliant. They managed the game really well. Our wingers chased hard and our dominant maul was a key feature.

"I was really pleased with the attitude all round and the hunger displayed. That's why I didn't make substitutions until late in the day as I could see we were in the zone."

Gloucester and Scotland outside-half Adam Hastings:

"Obviously I practise cross-field kicks. It's all part of your job and it feels good when it comes off.

"Earlier in the week, we spoke about what the conditions may be like. We thought it might be attritional in the first 60 minutes but then we scored a few nice tries."
