In the under 13 boys’ team event Du Mu and Stanley Hsu recorded a 3-1 win against Brazil’s Felipe de Lara and Vicenzo Nakashima, the no.2 seeds; outfits finishing in first and second places in each group in all competitions advancing to the main draw, Brazilians hopes of progress remain alive.

Immediately following a 3-0 success was posted in opposition to Colombia’s Camilo Betancor and Juan Castaño. They now face Du Mu and Stanley Hsu in the concluding group contest.

Puerto Rico’s Enrique Torres and Steven Moreno, the top seeds, duly remained unbeaten to secure top spot and progress to the second stage.

Top seeds suffer

Defeat for the second seeds at the hands of the United States, in the under 13 girls’ team event, it was the top seeds that suffered. Ecuador’s Camila Rubio and Nohelia Ortiz experienced a 3-0 reverse when opposing Aria Shi and Mandy Yu.

The United States duo now meets Brazil’s Abigail Araujo and Gabrielle Pincerato, beaten 3-2 by the Ecuadorians in their opening contest.

Disappointment for Camila Rubio and Nohelia Ortiz, it was the same in the under 13 girls’ team event for their second seeded colleagues, Maybelline Menendez and Belen Pachero. They experienced a 3-2 defeat when facing Brazil’s Namie Kano and Barbara Tadima.

One fixture in the group remaining; the Brazilians now meet Colombia’s Sofia Pinzon and Valentina Rodriguez, in their opening contest beaten 3-1 by the Ecuadorian duo.

Impressive from the United States, it was the same from Amber Liu and Lin Yishiuan, the no.3 seeds; group top place was duly secured.

Similar performances

Notably efforts in the under 13 age group from the United States, it was the same in both the under 11 boys’ team and under 11 girls’ team competitions.

Responding to the occasion, in the under 11 boys’ team event Brian Wu and Maxim Mouchinski recorded a 3-1 win against Puerto Rico’s Yamil Lopez and Geovanni Quinoñes, the no.3 seeds.

Ecuador’s Josué Perez and Kevin Ponce now await in the contest to determine first position; in their opening fixture, a 3-1 reverse was the outcome against the Puerto Ricans.

Notably, Colombia’s Emanuel Otalvaro and Juan Pineros, the top seeds, remained unbeaten to secure first place in their group as did Argentina’s Mateo Carranza and Matias Zeniquel, the second seeds.

Ended day unbeaten

Somewhat similarly, in the under 11 girls’ team event, the United States duo comprising Tiana Piyadasa and Abigail Yu, the no.2 seeds, with one fixture still remaining, ended the day unbeaten, a feat achieved also by the top seeded Puerto Rican pairing of Iana Gonzalez and Naymaris Hernandez.

However, the team to attract the attention was that of the United States duo comprising Geetha Krishna and Tashiya Piyadasa. They recorded a 3-0 win against Ecuador’s Emily Macay and Jeymi Paredes before securing a 3-1 success in opposition to Brazil’s Alicia Andrade and Maiara Alves, the no.3 seeds.

Geetha Krishna and Tashiya Piyadasa now oppose the Dominican Republic’s Eduanni de la Cruz and Yandra Mejia in the concluding group phase contest; both outfits remained unbeaten on the opening day and are thus guaranteed main draw places.

At the close of play on Tuesday 19th October, the semi-finalists in the under 11 age group team events will be known; in the quarter-finalists in the under 13 age group.
