Similarly, both Colombia’s Sebastian Bedoya and David Muñoz reserved top place in their group as did Guatemala’s Ian Morales and Carlos Castillo.

First place in their respective groups, Aria Shu and Mandy Yu, gained a direct entry to the last eight, Luciana Cadavid and Mariana Rodriguez booked their place courtesy of success in opposition to Peru’s Luciana Granados and Isabella Leon.

International debut

Meanwhile, in the under 11 team events, where virtually all players are on international debut, teams finishing in first positions in their group phase contests advanced to the penultimate round.

Colombia’s Emanuel Otalvaro and Juan Pineros face Brazil’s Frederico Martins and Theo Tadima at the semi-final stage of the boys’ competition; in the opposite half of the draw Maxim Mouchinski and Brian Wu of the United States confront Argentina’s Mateo Carranza and Matias Zeniquel.

The United States prominent; it is even more so in the girls’ team semi-finals. In the top half of the draw Greetha Krishna and Tashiya Piyadasa meet Puerto Rico’s Iana Gonzalez and Naymaris Hernandez; in the opposite half Tiana Piyadara and Abigail Yu face Ecuador’s Karolayn Maldonado and Zarahys Rivadeneira.

Top seeds advance

New names to the fore; however, in the under 13 events, those with some experience of international play, although minimal, advanced to the quarter-finals.

Additional to Puerto Rico’s Steven Moreno and Enrique Torres in the boys’ event, Brazil’s Davi Fujii and Hamilton Yamane, the no.2 seeds, progressed to the quarter-finals as did their colleagues Felipe de Lara and Vicenzo Nakashima.

Progress as anticipated, it was the same for the top four outfits in the girls’ event.

Ecuador’s Nohelia Ortiz and Anie Rubio, the top seeds, reserved their last eight place as did colleagues Maybelline Menendez and Belen Pacheco, the no.2 seeds.
