Published in Breaking News
Sunday, 01 December 2019 05:31

To help you set your lineups and avoid starting a player who won't take the field, we will post fantasy-relevant updates and analysis here as NFL teams release their inactives lists, typically about 90 minutes before kickoff. Any rankings cited in this column come from our ESPN Fantasy staff ranks.

Refresh often for the latest information.

1 p.m. ET games

Offense

Miles Boykin, WR, BAL: Ankle -- Questionable
Impact: Willie Snead IV gets a slight uptick in value.

Nick Boyle, TE, BAL: Ankle -- Questionable
Impact: Mark Andrews/Hayden Hurst have less competition for TE targets.

A.J. Green, WR, CIN: Ankle -- OUT
Impact: Again, it's looking unlikely he'll play at all in 2019.

Marlon Mack, RB, IND: Hand -- OUT
Impact: Potential return set for Week 14. Jonathan Williams/Nyheim Hines will split carries.

T.Y. Hilton, WR, IND: Calf -- OUT
Impact: Marcus Johnson will see more action as a result.

Parris Campbell, WR, IND: Hand -- Questionable
Impact: Looking promising for a return. Chester Rogers would gain traction if he can't go.

Seth DeValve, TE, JAX: Oblique -- OUT
Impact: Look elsewhere for TE points as Ben Koyack has done nothing of late.

Golden Tate, WR, NYG: Concussion -- OUT
Impact: Cody Latimer/Darius Slayton are your long-shot flex options.

Rhett Ellison, TE, NYG: Concussion -- OUT
Impact: Kaden Smith did well in Week 12 filling in for this flailing team.

Evan Engram, TE, NYG: Foot -- OUT
Impact: Scott Simonson had only one target last week in his relief effort.

Demaryius Thomas, WR, NYJ: Hamstring -- OUT
Impact: Should play and could excel with an emerging Sam Darnold.

Jordan Howard, RB, PHI: Shoulder -- OUT
Impact: Miles Sanders expected to start and get most of the backfield work.

Zach Ertz, TE, PHI: Hamstring -- Questionable
Impact: Josh Perkins was promoted to the active roster. Not a great sign for Ertz, but he still may give it a go.

James Conner, RB, PIT: Shoulder -- Doubtful
Impact: Benny Snell Jr. likely to lead a committee for the Steelers.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, PIT: Knee -- OUT
Impact: James Washington may end up as the go-to guy for Devlin Hodges.

Matt Breida, RB, SF: Ankle -- Questionable
Impact: Expected to sit. Tevin Coleman will lead in carries, with Raheem Mostert used sparingly.

Dante Pettis, WR, SF: Knee -- OUT
Impact: Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders both appear to be healthy.

Scotty Miller, WR, TB: Hamstring -- OUT
Impact: Breshad Perriman becomes a dart-throw flex flier.

Chris Thompson, RB, WAS: Toe -- Questionable
Impact: Expected to play, but Derrius Guice remains the better fantasy option.

4 p.m. ET games

Offense

Kyler Murray, QB, ARI: Hamstring -- Questionable
Impact: Breathe. He's expected to start. Brett Hundley would not be an apt replacement, by any means.

Damien Williams, RB, KC: Ribs -- OUT
Impact: LeSean McCoy/Darrel Williams to split carries.

Geremy Davis, WR, LAC: Hamstring -- OUT/IR
Impact: Mike Williams is back from a knee injury, making Davis expendable.

Gerald Everett, TE, LAR: Knee -- OUT
Impact: Erratic Tyler Higbee takes over TE duties.

Hunter Renfrow, WR, OAK: Ribs -- OUT
Impact: Trevor Davis may get a chance to take over his workload.

Which player had the best kicks in Week 6 in the NBA?

Published in Basketball
Saturday, 30 November 2019 13:29

After a two-month stretch of testing out his sneaker free-agent status, PJ Tucker sorted through discussions with Puma, New Balance, Reebok, Nike and others to finally make a decision on his next endorsement deal.

"Through it all, one family has been consistent," Tucker wrote in an Instagram announcement. "That's why I'm happy to announce that I'm signing back with the Swoosh. Leaders of the old school and the new."

Although other brands offered compelling multimillion dollar total deals and creative input for both on- and off-court products, Tucker's longtime love for Nike couldn't be topped.

"My taste in sneakers came from my experiences growing up," he said. "I would literally get two pairs of shoes a year: for my birthday [in May] and to start school. That did two things. For one, it made me value each pair of shoes I got. I had to make sure they lasted as long as possible. But even more, it made me think nonstop about the shoes I wanted and it sort of made me an expert in what was hot and what was not."

Tucker turned to one of his favorite Nike signature lines for his first game after re-signing with the brand, an exclusive 2005 edition of Kobe Bryant's Huarache 2K5. Nearly 15 years ago, Nike held one of its first design contests at its Los Angeles Niketown store, with Bryant hand-picking four winners and wearing their designs during the 2005-06 season.

Tucker tracked down the black, purple and yellow pair designed by "Mike," another pair in a long list of surprises from his closet. The only other known pair has been stashed for years by best-in-class collector Jay Jones, who posted all four of the fan-designed sneakers on Instagram, with a playful "Your move!" nudge to Tucker.

"Making it to the NBA sealed my fate. I was gonna get 'em all -- and then some," Tucker said. "Since then, I've worn shoes on the court that were worth so much, I wouldn't dare tell my mom."

With a new multiyear deal with the brand that should carry him through the remainder of his career, Tucker already has additional player exclusive colorways of upcoming Kobe Protro models on the way.

"Can't wait to show you guys what we come up with," he smiled.

Elsewhere in the league, players unveiled a mix of thoughtful tributes, festive themes and rare pairs. For his pro debut in his hometown of Toronto, New York Knicks rookie RJ Barrett had a custom pair by artist Sierato in the works.

Highlighted by a series of maple leaves along the main panel of his Puma Clyde Hardwoods, the Toronto skyline could be seen on the inner left collar, with "MADE IN CANADA" depicted on the opposite shoe.

Though overt sneaker theme weeks might have waned now that players can wear sneakers of any color on any night, Blazers combo guard CJ McCollum still looked to serve up a spirited pair for Thanksgiving. With a two-tone brown upper, his latest Li-Nings feature a multicolored midsole wedge inspired by some of McCollum's favorite dishes, along with a heel counter highlighted by a series of turkey, veggie and wine icons.

Once his mid-June trade to the Utah Jazz had been completed, Mike Conley Jr.'s sneakers were set to get a new look after he had spent his entire career suiting up for the Memphis Grizzlies. In the months leading up to the regular season, Jordan Brand crafted a batch of player exclusive colorways for the typically reserved Conley. His loudest pair yet, a bold yellow and navy edition of the Air Jordan 34, also features "Roaring '20s" artwork along the heel, a nod to the starting points of jazz music.

Brandon Ingram looked to continue his link to Adidas' past, breaking out the most recent edition of Tracy McGrady's ongoing signature line. The mismatched red and blue T-Mac Millennium drew inspiration from the Hall of Fame scorer's sneakers at the 2004 All-Star Game. While enjoying his breakout season, Ingram's 25.9 points per game currently rank ninth in the NBA, as he hopes to soon make his own All-Star Game imprint.

With the Miami Heat debuting their latest "Vice" uniforms, newcomer Jimmy Butler did his best to pull out a pair to go along with the team's unique laser fuchsia and blue gale hues. His Jordan Supreme Elevation exclusive was originally made last season for Black History Month, but fit in just fine for a Miami home win in their new much-loved look.

Check out each of the best sneakers worn in the association this week and be sure to vote on your favorite pair in our poll below. For real-time updates on sneaker culture and NBA kicks, follow @SneakerCenter on Instagram.

VADO, N.M. – Johnny Herrera closed out the weekend at Vado Speedway Park by sweeping the Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Winged Sprint Car portion of the Turkey Bowl on Saturday night.

Anton Hernandez Doubles His Vado Fun

Sunday, 01 December 2019 03:47

VADO, N.M. – Anton Hernandez swept the 360 non-winged sprint car portion of the Turkey Bowl on Saturday at Vado Speedway Park and he did so in dramatic fashion.

One day after surviving a broken left-front axle to win at the New Mexico dirt track, Hernandez found himself chasing down World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series Director Casey Shuman in the waining laps.

Entering turn three on the penultimate lap Shuman bobbled, opening the door for Hernandez to dive under him coming out of turn four as the pair raced towards the white flag.

The blew past the flag stand side-by-side, with Hernandez clearing Shuman to take the lead as the entered turn one. Shuman tried to cross back under Hernandez coming out of turn two, but he hit a rut and lost his momentum.

That left Hernandez all alone at the front of the field and he pulled away to his second victory in as many days.

Shuman settled for second, followed by Kevin Thomas Jr., Gary Floyd and Don Grable.

Johnny Herrera also completed a sweep of the weekend, taking both features in the companion Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Winged Sprint Car division.

The finish:

Anton Hernandez, Casey Shuman, Kevin Thomas Jr., Gary Floyd, Don Grable, Robert Herrera, Shon Deskins, Joshua Hodges, Asa Kesterson, Greg Little, David Dykes, R.J. Johnson, Spencer Hill, Michael Fanelli, Charles Davis Jr., Kyle McCutcheon, Rick Ziehl, Travis Oldfield, Colt Treharn, Zac Taylor.

Ronaldo ends goal drought as Juve slip up

Published in Soccer
Sunday, 01 December 2019 05:40

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first Juventus goal since October to rescue a 2-2 Serie A draw against Sassuolo in Turin, as the Italian champions dropped points for only third time this season.

Leonardo Bonucci fired Juve into the lead in the first half, but an exquisite finish from Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga levelled the scores just three minutes later before Francesco Caputo put the visitors in front after the break following a defensive mix-up and an error by keeper Gianluigi Buffon.

Ronaldo netted from the penalty spot midway through the second half to end his four-match goal drought in all competitions and deny Sassuolo their first ever win in this fixture.

Juventus remain in first place on 36 points, but Inter Milan can move one point ahead of them by beating SPAL later on Sunday.

Yasir Shah might not have Shane Warne's numbers when it comes to legspin, but the Pakistani has now achieved something that his childhood hero couldn't during his 15-year Test career. When Yasir dragged seamer Josh Hazlewood over mid-on in the 86th over of Pakistan's first innings, he became a Test centurion - and that too against the pink ball. Incidentally, this was also Yasir's maiden first-class hundred.

"I haven't spoken to him [Warne] about it [the Test hundred]," Yasir said after the third day's play in Adelaide. "I'm always in touch with Shane Warne. We communicate over phone messages too. And he only talks to me about bowling."

Yasir's landmark now probably gives him good authority to speak to Warne about batting. His innings provided the Pakistan fans something to cheer about after the other batsmen had collapsed around captain Babar Azam's 97 in response to Australia's 589 for 3 declared. So, did Yasir really believe that he would score a Test ton?

"When we were on our way to the ground in the morning, I had this thought in my mind that I will bat throughout the day," he said. "And if I bat throughout the day, I will make a century. That was exactly what I was talking to my friends Naseem Shah and Muhammad Musa about this morning. Then, I went to the nets and batted, and kept thinking about batting throughout the day."

Yasir was reprieved at least three times - on 35 (a stumping), 43 (a dolly of a caught-and-bowled to Marnus Labuschagne) and 106 (another simple chance to Labuschagne at short leg) - and he capitalised on it, reaching 113 off 213 balls before he was the last Pakistan batsman to be dismissed in their first innings.

"I tried my best to make sure I spend a lot of time at the crease," he said. "When you do that, you get set and you find batting becomes easier. It's tough against this world-class Australian bowling attack, and to score a century against them was good."

ALSO READ: Yasir Shah - Pakistan's first centurion at No. 8 since 2006

Yasir celebrated the landmark by leaping in the air and waving his bat towards the crowd, with all his team-mates warmly applauding him from Pakistan's corner.

"I was so excited and happy," he said of his celebration. "It's a dream to score a century in Adelaide and on an Australian tour. At that point, I wasn't aware of what I was doing really but I know I jumped in the air and swung my bat around. And I enjoyed it a lot. It was great fun."

While the century might not make up for his poor returns with the ball in Australia - he averages nearly 90 in the country - Yasir said that he had learnt lessons from the previous trip although he couldn't quite implement those against a rampaging David Warner who made history with 335 not out.

"I was trying to perform at my best even the last time I came here," Yasir said. "It's every spinner's wish to do well in Australia because that raises your image and profile. I've put in a lot of hard work.

"The last time I bowled too fast. And I was bowling at a faster pace than what I wanted to here, too, and I didn't use my variations well.

"David Warner played really well to score a triple-ton. He didn't let me settle and get my lines and lengths. And, at times, he even scored runs of our good balls. And he's too good a batsman to miss out on our bad balls."

Sources: Magic's Aminu (knee) out indefinitely

Published in Basketball
Sunday, 01 December 2019 05:45

Orlando Magic forward Al-Farouq Aminu suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee and will be out indefinitely, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Magic are determining if Aminu's injury can be treated without surgery, sources said.

Aminu joined Orlando as a free agent this offseason and is averaging 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18 games this season.

Tradition maintained, tradition broken

Winner three months ago in the first week of September at the 2019 Asian Junior and Cadet Championships in Ulaabaator, Miyu Nagasaki, the no.4 seed, accounted for China’s Wu Yangchen at the semi-final stage (10-12, 11-1, 13-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7), prior to overcoming colleague, Haruna Ojio, the no.13 seed, to seal the title (11-4, 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7).

Only 14 years old, having beaten DPR Korea’s Kim Un Song at the semi-final stage (11-6, 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8), Haruno Ojio becomes the youngest player ever to reach a girls’ singles final at a World Junior Championships. Similarly it is a milestone for Kim Un Song; she is the first player from DPR Korea to win a medal in the girls’ singles event.

Second title

A second major title for Miyu Nagasaki in the space of three months and there was to be a second on the concluding day of play in Korat for the 17 year old; she partnered colleague, Miyuu Kihara to girls’ doubles gold and thus added to their quite remarkable list of successes this year.

They won at the Asian Junior and Cadet Championships, at ITTF Challenge Series tournaments they prevailed in Croatia and Slovenia, on the ITTF World Tour in Austria.

In Korat, after beating the French partnership of Camille Lutz and Prithika Pavade (11-4, 11-6, 11-2), they secured the title at the final expense of China’s Kuai Man and Shi Xunyao (11-5, 11-6, 12-10). In the counterpart semi-final, Kuai Man and Shi Zunyao had ousted Poland’s Anna Wegrzyn and Katarzyna Wegrzyn (11-9, 11-8, 11-7).

Three firsts for Japan

It is only the second time that China has not won the girls’ doubles title at a World Championships; the one other occasion was 2016 in Cape Town when Romania’s Adina Diaconu and Andreea Dragoman struck gold.

Two titles for Miyu Nagasaki on the concluding day of play, it was the same for Miyuu Kihara, only 15 years old; she partnered colleague, Yukiya Uda to mixed doubles success. At the final hurdle they beat China’s Xu Yingbin and Shi Xunyao (11-9, 11-1, 11-7).

Hence for Japan, at a World Junior Championships it was three firsts, the first time the girls’ singles champion, the first time the girls’ doubles, the first time the mixed doubles!

China upstaged

Success for the Land of the Rising Sun, rather upstaged the efforts of Xiang Peng alongside colleagues Liu Yebo and Xu Yingbin.

Semi-finalist last year in Bendigo when losing to Yukiya Uda, runner up earlier this year at the Asian Junior and Cadet Championships, in Korat, Xiang Peng climbed the last step.

The top seed, after overcoming Japan’s Shunsuke Togami at the semi-final stage (14-12, 12-10, 13-11, 10-12, 11-9), he accounted for Sweden’s Truls Möregard, the no.12 seed in the final (12-10, 11-3, 11-8, 11-5), the semi-final winner in opposition to Chinese Taipei’s Feng Yi-Hsin, the no.15 seed (11-7, 12-10, 11-7, 11-9).

Thus for Truls Möregard, the winner of the junior boys’ singles title earlier this year at the European Youth Championships, it was the fame fate as in 2017 in Riva del Garda; on that occasion he was beaten in the final by Xue Fei, like Xiang Peng from China.

Oustanding boys’ doubles pair

Impressive from Xiang Peng, it was the same in the boys’ doubles from Liu Yebo and Xu Yingbin. At the final hurdle they beat Vladimir Sidorenko and Artem Tikhonov (11-3, 11-6, 11-2); déjà vu, it was a second silver medal for Russia in consecutive years. In 2018 in Bendigo, Maksim Grebnev and Lev Katsman had reached the final losing to Xiang Peng and Chinese colleague, Xu Haidong.

Earlier at the semi-final stage Vladimir Sidorenko and Artem Tikhonov had beaten Xiang Peng and Zeng Beixun (11-8, 11-5, 12-10); Liu Yebo and Xu Yingbin had overcome Singapore’s Josh Chua Shao Han and Pang Yew En Koen (11-8, 8-11, 13-11, 11-8).

Success for Singapore, it was their first ever medal at a World Junior Championships; however the day belonged to Japan, three gold medals and there was one more.

Swaythling Club award

Shunsuke Togami received the Swaythling Club award for his splendid attitude, the citation read “for setting a good example and upholding the best interests of sport”.

On the fourth day of play at the semi-final stage of the boys’ team event, when facing China, he had lost by the minimal two point margin in the decisive fifth game of the crucial fifth match against Xiang Peng.

Today once again he suffered against Xiang Peng; in both instances he behaved impeccably, a credit Japan, the nation that departed Korat heads held high. Three gold medals on the concluding day of action; we look forward to 2020, we look forward to Portugal we look forward to Guimaraes.
