CONCORD, N.C. – The disqualification of Ross Chastain’s No. 44 Chevrolet from Sunday’s M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Stores at Iowa Speedway was affirmed and upheld by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel on Wednesday.

Chastain’s win was the first to be stripped under NASCAR’s new-for-2019 rules policy, implemented during the offseason, which expedited post-race technical inspection from a mid-week process to a 90-minute teardown at the race track after the race.

As such, if a driver is found in violation of post-race technical inspection this year, their finishing position, stage points and any benefits are removed and that driver receives last-place points for the given event.

Chastain’s Niece Motorsports truck repeatedly failed tech for being too low in the front after the race on Sunday. The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, unlike the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, does have minimum ride-height regulations which must be met.

Due to the disqualification, Brett Moffitt was awarded Sunday’s victory, while Chastain lost the seven playoff points and automatic bid into the playoffs he would have received upon cracking the top 20 in Truck Series driver points, as well as only earning five points total.

Wednesday’s decision is final and cannot be appealed further, unlike other appeals for rule-violation penalties.

“In a race disqualification appeal, the decision of the panelist – which could be an appeals panelist, Final Appeals Officer, or his or her alternates, under Section 14 – will be considered final,” states section 14.6.f of the NASCAR rule book. “There is no ability to appeal the decision to the Final Appeals Office as outlined in Section 15.”

The appeal was heard by National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer Bryan Moss.

“Although our team disagrees with the decision, we have exhausted our options for recourse and must move on,” said team owner Al Niece. “Our sights will remain set on the obstacle in front of us – which is making the playoffs.

“I firmly believe that Ross and this Niece Motorsports team are capable of rising to the challenge, no matter what gets in our way.”

Chastain is simply ready to push forward and chase another win this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

“This is actually very simple – Sunday is in the past,” Chastain said. “I’m focused on getting to Gateway and putting this Niece Motorsports truck in victory lane for the third time this year.”

Atletico Madrid right-back Juanfran is wanted by MLS expansion franchise Nashville SC as well as Brazilian teams Corinthians and Sao Paulo, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

Having spent the past eight seasons with Atletico, Juanfran will leave the La Liga club when his contract expires at the end of the month. The defender is keen for his next move to be away from Spain, where he has also played for Real Madrid, Espanyol and Osasuna.

Nashville has explored the possibility of signing the former Spain international ahead of its inaugural season in Major League Soccer in 2020. A move to the United States is a very serious option, but so is Brazil.

"It's true that Corinthians and Sao Paulo have sounded him out and they are both very interested in him," a source close to the player told ESPN FC.

Corinthians and Sao Paulo first made contact with Juanfran a while ago now and his agents have listened to what they've had to say. They like the sporting projects at both clubs, but nothing has been finalized yet.

Juanfran, 34, wants to continue his career "in a competitive championship," sources explained, somewhere where he can still test himself. A move elsewhere in Europe has been all but ruled out, though.

On holiday in the south of Spain with his family, Juanfran will begin to think about his next step in the coming days as he prepares to cut ties with Atleti.

Detectives investigating the death of Cardiff signing Emiliano Sala have arrested an individual on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act, the Dorset (England) Police Department announced on Wednesday.

"We have carried out a wide-ranging investigation into the circumstances of the death of Mr. Sala and continue to work with partner agencies including the Civil Aviation Authority," Detective Inspector Simon Huxter said in a statement.

"As part of this investigation we have to consider whether there is any evidence of any suspected criminality and as a result of our enquiries we have today, Wednesday 19 June 2019, arrested a 64-year-old man from the North Yorkshire area on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act. He is assisting with our enquiries and has been released from custody under investigation."

Huxter added: "As is standard practice, we will not be releasing any further information as to the identity of the individual who has been arrested unless that person is charged to appear in court."

The statement said police would provide no further details on the man's identity at this stage.

Dorset police are investigating the circumstances of Sala's death and said they have been providing updates to the Argentine's family as well as the family of the pilot of the aircraft, David Ibbotson.

A plane carrying Sala and Ibbotson went missing from radar over the English Channel on Jan. 21 after the player had finalised a deal to join the Premier League club. The plane was travelling from Nantes, France, to Cardiff, Wales.

Sala's body was identified in the wreckage of the plane on Feb. 7.

Netherlands 209 for 3 (O'Dowd 82*) beat Zimbabwe 205 for 8 (Taylor 71, Klaassen 2-29) by seven wickets

While the cricket watching public are binging on the World Cup, Netherlands made a serious statement by totally outplaying Zimbabwe, with opening batsman Max O'Dowd batting through the innings to ensure a chase of 206 was as straightforward as possible. The 25-year old was on ODI debut and made 82 off 116 balls.

Such was their dominance that Netherlands sealed victory with seven wickets and 26 balls to spare in a 47-over game.

Tobias Visee kick-started the chase with six fours in a knock of 28. But he was dismissed by Ainsley Ndlovu, who became the 26th player in ODI history to pick up a wicket with his first ball.

O'Dowd took control from there on, moving smoothly past fifty, and though Netherlands stumbled from 110 for 1 to 117 for 3, his presence at the crease denied Zimbabwe any further chances to get back in the game.

There were several other highlights for the Dutch as well, namely their Fred Klaassen (2-29), Paul van Meekeren (2-30) and Pieter Seelaar (2-32) restricting Zimbabwe to a manageable total. They combined so well together that only one opposition batsman crossed 35.

Brendan Taylor tried his best, making 71 off 85 even as wickets fell all around him. He walked in with the score on 39 for 2 and watched the innings unravel to 127 for 6. But through it all, he stayed firm, hitting seven fours and two sixes, finally falling in the 40th over. At that time, Zimbabwe were 159 for 7 but Kyle Jarvis and Donald Tiripano hoisted them up over 200.

Mashrafe Mortaza had been struggling for wickets in the first three matches of the World Cup when he got a surprise call from one of his heroes, Andy Roberts.

Having been introduced in 2001, Mashrafe had subsequently met Roberts on a number of tours to the West Indies, but there had been a long gap since they last spoke. Mashrafe said that the advice was reminiscent of what Roberts, who still calls him by his nickname, had told him the first time they met.

"We have spoken intermittently in the past," Mashrafe told ESPNcricinfo. "We went through a gap. We used to talk at times. But he recently took my number from Courtney Walsh to get in touch with me. He told me that everything is fine. Everyone has a phase. He told me to concentrate. It is the same thing that he told me all those years ago. His message was simple. I was definitely surprised. He is getting old, but he is still following cricket. He still calls me by my nickname 'Koushik'."

On an invitation from the Bangladesh Cricket Board in 2001, Roberts had undertaken a week long bowling camp at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. Mashrafe, the current ODI captain, was only a 17-year old in that camp which was also attended by a number of future Test bowlers. Roberts' contribution to the development of fast bowling in the country is widely acknowledged.

"Those who follow cricket deeply, only they know who Andy Roberts is, and his amazing record," Mashrafe said. "We as cricketers know him well. He is such a great cricketer. He didn't just stop teaching me that one time. He always follows up. It is obviously a big achievement that such a great player like him follows me."

Mashrafe added that back in 2001 they were in such awe of Roberts that for much of the time, they just stared at him. Years later when cricket clips became available on Youtube, Mashrafe said that he used to look at the videos of Roberts bowling in his heyday.

"He told me that everything is fine. Everyone has a phase. He told me to concentrate. It is the same thing that he told me in 2001" Mashrafe relays Roberts' advice

"It was just amazing when he came to Bangladesh in 2001," he said. "I was there with future Test pace bowlers like Talha Jubair, Anwar Hossain Monir, Mahbubul Alam Robin, Shafaq Al Jabir, Syed Rasel, Tarek Aziz and Alamgir Kabir. We just used to stare at him at first, knowing who he was. We never saw him play but later we caught up on Youtube. We saw what a great fast bowler he was. Those who were in his class, it was amazing for all of us."

In the first match since speaking to Roberts, ironically against West Indies, Mashrafe bowled an excellent spell without anything to show for in the wickets column. It did, however, keep the run-rate in check. Then on the back of Shakib Al Hasan's unbeaten 124, Bangladesh ended up chasing 322 with 51 balls to spare.

Mashrafe said that the win has really changed the mood within the team. "It was an important win, not just to survive in the tournament but just seeing how that week leading up to the game went for us. We got one point from a game [washout against Sri Lanka] that we thought we could win, having already lost two back-to-back games.

"Nobody would say it but this did affect everyone in the dressing room. Losing the close game to New Zealand wasn't also a good message for the team. Beating West Indies has reignited the team. Everyone is now confident."

Rasikh Salam, the Jammu and Kashmir youngster who represented Mumbai Indians in IPL 2019, has been banned for two years "following a discrepancy - submission of faulty birth certificate to BCCI", the Indian board announced via a press statement on Wednesday.

Right-arm medium pacer Salam, born on April 5, 2001 according to official records, was a part of the India Under-19 squad for a triangular one-day series in England, with Bangladesh as the third side, starting July 21.

But he has now been removed from the touring party, and Prabhat Maurya has taken his place in the 18-member squad.

Salam made his List-A debut for J&K in October last year and played his maiden first-class match in January this year before being picked up by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019 auction. He turned out in one game in this year's IPL, opening the bowling and conceding 42 runs in four wicketless overs against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai.

South Africa came well and truly acropper against Kane Williamson's cool and Colin de Grandhomme's muscle, New Zealand all but knocking their opponents out of a World Cup for a third time with a four-wicket win at Edgbaston.

Williamson and de Grandhomme shared in a 91-run stand that set up New Zealand's pursuit of South Africa's 241 for 6, Williamson pumping a last-over six off Andile Phehlukwayo that brought up a match-winning hundred before his umpteenth dab to third man brought up the win.

South Africa spilled several chances in the field - and would have had Williamson caught behind in the 70s had they used their review - wilting under the pressure as New Zealand secured their fifth World Cup victory over them.
