Slinger Super Speedway Going Racing Sunday

SLINGER, Wis. – These might’ve been the best words heard by race fans in months: “We’re racing.”

Slinger Super Speedway promoter Todd Thelen announced in a Facebook live chat the track will open its gates for racers and its fans Sunday, three weeks after the originally planned opener was to take place.

“Good news. We’re racing,” Thelen announced Thursday.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision, which was announced Wednesday, that Gov. Tony Evers’ extension of the Safer at Home order was overturned. The order was initially placed in March and was to expire April 24. Shortly before that, Evers extended the order to May 26, which prompted a lawsuit by lawmakers. The Supreme Court overturned that decision Wednesday.

“Weather doesn’t look the best and hopefully it clears out and it’s good all day Sunday,” Thelen said during the live feed. “If it doesn’t clear out, we’re going to turn the lights on and we’re going to stay there until we get the races done within our guidelines and the village of Slinger.”

Seating capacity for fans is going to be capped at 25 percent and there will be caps on car counts in each division. Thelen said the reason for that is to protect overflow.

More To Come.
