DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR has announced that the sanctioning body will not hold the NASCAR Champion’s Week and NASCAR Cup Series Awards in Nashville, Tenn., as originally planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus and the impact on the industry, this year’s NASCAR Champion’s Week and NASCAR Cup Series Awards originally scheduled to take place in Nashville will not occur,” read NASCAR’s statement. “The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series champions will be celebrated at the end of the season with more details to come. We look forward to returning to Nashville in 2021.”

The 2020 edition of NASCAR Champion’s Week and the NASCAR Cup Series Awards was to be the second time that Nashville, Tenn., had hosted the events. Nashville first hosted NASCAR’s annual post-season celebration in 2019.

Prior to 2019, NASCAR celebrated its NASCAR Cup Series champion in Las Vegas, Nev., from 2009 to 2018. New York City hosted the first formal post-season championship celebration in 1981 and continued to host the celebration until 2008.
