CONCORD, N.C. – Chase Elliott has secured the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Dover Int’l Speedway.
Elliott, who won last Sunday’s race at the Daytona Int’l Speedway road course, was awarded the pole based on NASCAR’s new starting lineup formula. The formula utilizes a driver’s finishing position from the most recent race (weighted at 50 percent), owner points position (35 percent) and the fastest lap from the previous race (15 percent).
Denny Hamlin will start second in the No. 11 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. Martin Truex Jr. will line up third ahead of Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano.
Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski, William Byron, Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick will start sixth through 10th.
Austin Dillon, who sat out last Sunday’s race after a positive COVID-19 test, is listed as starting 32nd. However, he has not been formally cleared by NASCAR to return.
