VALENCIA, Spain – Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi has been cleared to compete after two negative COVID-19 PCR tests.
Rossi initially received a negative COVID-19 PCR test on Thursday and was then given permission to travel to Valencia, Spain. Friday morning he was given another PCR test per FIM requirements and tested negative again, allowing him to compete Sunday at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
The team brought American rider Garrett Gerloff in to ride for the team during Friday’s two practice sessions as they awaited the results of Rossi’s second test. Had Rossi tested positive for COVID-19 again, Gerloff would have made his MotoGP debut for the team on Sunday.
Rossi initially tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-October and was in isolation per Italian government rules.
