SHENANDOAH, Va. – Billy Hubbard captured his first sprint car victory Saturday night, claiming the 25-lap Virginia Sprint Series opener at Shenandoah Speedway.

Hubbard used his outside front row starting position to grab the top spot from Matt Mullins when the race began and never looked back.

The Virginia Sprint Series is a 305 Race Saver series that competes on both dirt and pavement throughout the season. Saturday’s season opener was contested on the asphalt of Shenandoah Speedway.

In victory lane Hubbard explained he had minimal sprint car experience entering Saturday night’s event.

”This is my very first win. I run last season, about eight races. This is my first this season. I’ve run very little pavement,” Hubbard said. “I mostly run dirt late models. I assumed my first win would come on dirt, not pavement. But I couldn’t ask for a better place than Shenandoah Speedway to get my first win. We enjoy this place.”

Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series event was the first asphalt sprint car race this year contested outside of the state of Florida.

The finish:

Billy Hubbard, Michael Keeton, Jerald Harris, Bill Rice, Matt Mullins, Bill Mullis, Caleb Harris, French Grimes, Mike Leraas, Chris Ware.
