Little has changed following a BCB meeting on Sunday that was expected to throw up a final decision on Bangladesh's proposed tour of Pakistan. At a media briefing in Dhaka after the meeting, BCB chief Nazmul Hassan said the government had told the board it can go ahead with a tour of Pakistan but keep it "short" due to the Iran-US tensions.

This essentially means Bangladesh can play a T20I series but not Tests, which was the same line that the BCB had taken in December.

The BCB will now speak to the PCB about its decision. "We are clear cut, but let's see how they react," Hassan said. "As far as security is concerned, T20 is a better option.

"They should be happy that we still want to go to play T20s. We just wanted rescheduling [of the Tests], not saying we won't tour.

"This is the best thing we can offer to Pakistan."

The BCB's citation of rising tensions "in the Middle East" as a leading cause of it not embarking on a longer tour would appear to rule out hosting the Test series in the UAE - Pakistan's home for the bulk of their home commitments over the past decade - as well. But the PCB is adamant the series be held within Pakistan, so that may be a moot point anyway.

The PCB is yet to react to this latest development - when asked, the board said that it had not received any official communication from the BCB. But ESPNcricinfo understands any offer that does not include playing the Test-leg of the series in Pakistan is unlikely to be acceptable to the PCB.

As such, today's statement from the BCB may fall well short of any common ground the two boards will be hoping to establish.

The proposed tour features three T20Is, in Lahore on January 23, 25 and 27, followed by two Tests, originally slated for Rawalpindi and Karachi. But then the BCB said it wanted to split the series, playing the T20Is in Pakistan and the Tests at a neutral venue.

Bangladeshi sides have toured Pakistan in the recent past, but the senior men's team hasn't done so since playing a five-match ODI series there in 2007-08. Seven years ago, they were close to deciding on a tour to Pakistan, only for the AHM Mustafa Kamal-led BCB to pull out shortly after the decision to tour was taken.

Sources: Xavi declines Barca offer to coach club

Sunday, 12 January 2020 07:04

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez has decided to turn down the opportunity to immediately replace Ernesto Valverde as the club's head coach, sources have told ESPN.

After two days of phone calls and meetings, the Al Sadd manager told Barca sporting director Eric Abidal and CEO Oscar Grau that he was open to the possibility of joining the club next season.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will be busy Monday, with a long-overdue meeting with the club's board in the afternoon, when he will discuss everything that took place over the past few days.

Sources told ESPN that Valverde's job was not in immediate danger after the SuperCopa exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid, but Barca changed their minds and sent Abidal and Grau to Qatar, where they met with Xavi on three occasions and held a meeting with the injured Ousmane Dembele.

Xavi, who has been linked with the Barca job ever since he stopped playing for the club, prefers to start the new project from scratch and not go behind Valverde's back, sources said. On Saturday, Xavi said he respected Valverde a lot.

Valverde is expected to take training Monday morning with his squad in preparation for the team's La Liga match against Granada at Camp Nou next weekend.

Cops say Edelman arrested for jumping on car

Published in Breaking News
Sunday, 12 January 2020 08:30

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was arrested Saturday night in Beverly Hills, California, and cited for misdemeanor vandalism, according to police.

Edelman, 33, jumped on the hood of a vehicle on Saturday at approximately 9 p.m. PT, causing damage, police said. After the arrest, he was later released by police. In a statement, police said that Edelman is scheduled to appear at Airport Courthouse on April 13.

Former Boston Celtics star and current ESPN NBA analyst Paul Pierce posted a picture on Instagram last night of himself, Edelman and former Patriots receiver Danny Amendola in Beverly Hills.

Edelman is from Redwood City, California.

Edelman, who was named Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl LIII, was the Patriots' leading receiver in 2019 with 100 receptions for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns.

He had played through shoulder and knee injuries and was recently named the team's 2019 Ed Block Courage Award recipient.

Ever since Russell Westbrook's sudden summertime trade away from the only franchise he'd played for came to fruition, the former Oklahoma City Thunder star knew he'd look to highlight his appreciation for the city during his eventual return.

Just before the Houston Rockets were set to face off against the recently retooled Thunder roster, the visiting Westbrook took the floor with his typical pregame Chesapeake Energy Arena routine still intact: handshakes with each and every operations worker along the scorer's table and a clapping sprint to the corner of the baseline to rile up the OKC crowd.

"I felt like I was home," Westbrook said after the game.

He arrived at the game wearing a shirt declaring "Zero Regrets" and "Thank You Oklahoma!" On his feet was a new pair of his signature Jordan WhyNot Zer0.3 sneakers, in the orange and blue hues he'd known for more than a decade. Layered all throughout the upper of the shoe was a collection of his stats with the Thunder during his 11 seasons, along with a simple "Thank You!" message across the heel of each shoe.

"I didn't get this feeling like it was weird. It just felt like I was playing, back at Chesapeake," he said. "Like a normal game for me, honestly."

Just before agreeing with the Thunder on a long-term extension in the fall of 2017, Westbrook had signed a decade-long extension with Jordan Brand, building on the momentum of his MVP season earlier that spring. All throughout his return, fans showered him yet again with "MVP" chants.

"I don't regret one thing being here in Oklahoma City," he said. "I don't regret signing back, I don't regret staying here. I don't regret anything that I did here. I feel like I left everything out on the floor every single night and did what I could for the city."

Throughout the nostalgic night, as fans donned familiar No. 0 jerseys and the arena aired its first tribute video, players looked to celebrate Westbrook in their own way. During his pregame warm-up, Rockets power forward PJ Tucker wore one of the first player-exclusive sneakers that Jordan Brand made for Westbrook after signing him in 2012. It was a move the Houston point guard wasn't expecting.

Styled in black, royal, orange and yellow, the Jordan SuperFly 1 PE took things back to the beginning of Westbrook's relationship with Jordan Brand, a partnership that has evolved to include three signature sneakers and is expected to extend throughout his career.

Once he took the floor for tipoff, Tucker had switched into yet another former Thunder star's signature kicks in a move that surprised even the shoe's original designer, Leo Chang. With handwritten coding still on the midsole of the Nike KD IV, Tucker's pair was a "weartest sample" from 2011, a development pair made months before the shoe's eventual release without any identifying player logos.

"I'm just puzzled by the colorway," Chang said with a laugh. "We don't normally sample weartest shoes in anything other than black."

Typically, Nike will make around a dozen pairs of each stage of a weartest shoe in size 13, 14 or 15, with high-level players and employees testing them in closed-door, top-secret pickup games and drills at the Nike headquarters.

The pairs are played in for weeks at a time, analyzed by testing coordinators after and then often shredded and recycled by the brand. The feedback from players is incorporated into the next round of design updates to improve the sneakers if needed. Tucker's tracking down a brand-new pair had the people at Nike who originally created the shoes scratching their heads.

"I love when they are stumped!" Tucker said with a laugh.

Out East, another surprise fourth signature shoe "puzzled" sneakerheads, as Toronto Raptors small forward Stanley Johnson was spotted in a new white, yellow and purple colorway of Kobe Bryant's beloved Nike Kobe 4 Protro. While the colors were classic Lakers tones, a No. 0 along the collar threw some people off.

They were actually originally made for current Los Angeles Lakers power forward Kyle Kuzma, who left the brand in October and signed with Puma. A six-pair set of player-exclusive colorways originally made for "Kuz" was instead recently re-routed to Johnson, who wears the same size.

"It was tough. It was tough from the simple fact of how much I love Kobe," Kuzma said of switching brands. "One, that's my favorite shoe of all time -- Kobe's shoes."

For the current Laker, the decision became more about creating his own path than following in the literal footsteps of Bryant.

"It was tough, but at the end of the day, I have dreams and goals, and I imagine myself being at that type of level in this business," he said. "Making the business decision that I did, hopefully it will pay off."

Elsewhere in the league, LA Clippers shooting guard Paul George debuted his own fourth signature shoe with Nike, a semi-shrouded mesh low top inspired by his sleek, two-way game and hometown connection to NASA's Palmdale, California, center.

Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic debuted the low-top version of the new Air Jordan 34, which features a leather toe cap and neon green accents atop a clean white base. It was the first of many expected headlining moments for Doncic, as he begins the first few weeks of his new five-year shoe deal with Jordan Brand.

Last but not least, LeBron James unveiled a player-exclusive edition of his LeBron 15 model from two seasons ago that caught attention. Styled similarly to Kanye West's iconic Air Yeezy 1 sneaker from 2009, the inspired-by look was complete with tan and pink accents and a glow-in-the-dark outsole.

Tennis star Roger Federer has responded to climate change critics - including campaigner Greta Thunberg - by saying he takes the issue very seriously.

Activists oppose Federer's sponsorship deal with Credit Suisse over its links to the fossil fuel industry.

Some appeared in court this week after refusing to pay a fine for playing tennis inside Credit Suisse offices in 2018 to highlight Federer's deal.

Federer did not address the deal directly in his statement.

The activists - most of them students - appeared in court in Renens, Lausanne, on 7 January to appeal against the fine. Some supporters gathered outside holding banners which read: "Credit Suisse is destroying the planet. Roger, do you support them?"

Greta Thunberg - the Swedish teenager who has become the public face of worldwide protests against government policies on climate change - joined the criticism against Federer and Credit Suisse when she retweeted a post from activists 350.org Europe.

The post said loans by Credit Suisse to companies investing in fossil fuels were incompatible with action on climate change and urged Federer to "wake up".

In his response, the 20-time Grand Slam champion who is in Melbourne for the Australian Open, said: "I take the impacts and threat of climate change very seriously, particularly as my family and I arrive in Australia amidst devastation from the bushfires."

Federer said he had "a great deal of respect and admiration for the youth climate movement" and was "grateful to young climate activists for pushing us all to examine our behaviours and act on innovative solutions".

"We owe it to them and ourselves to listen. I appreciate reminders of my responsibility as a private individual, as an athlete and as an entrepreneur, and I'm committed to using this privileged position to dialogue on important issues with my sponsors."

For its part, Credit Suisse has said it is "seeking to align its loan portfolios with the objectives of the Paris Agreement [to combat climate change] and has recently announced in the context of its global climate strategy that it will no longer invest in new coal-fired power plants".

Federer is taking part in a fundraising event next Wednesday in aid of relief efforts to address the Australian bushfires which have killed at least 28 people and destroyed thousands of homes since September.

More on the Australian bushfires:

How years compare with the 20th Century average

Serena Williams won her first title in three years and first since becoming a mother with victory over Jessica Pegula at the Auckland Classic.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion beat her fellow American 6-3 6-4.

It is the 38-year-old's first singles title since she won the Australian Open in 2017 and her 73rd WTA title overall.

Williams, in her fourth decade on the WTA Tour, lost the Wimbledon and US Open finals in 2018 and 2019 and retired from the 2019 Rogers Cup final.

She said after her victory that she would donate her prize money in Auckland and a dress she had worn to the Australian bushfire appeal.

"It feels good. It's been a long time, I think you could see the relief on my face," said Williams.

"I have been playing for so long and been through so much and I'm happy to be doing something I love."

The Australian Open begins on 20 January, with Williams bidding to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Williams won her first WTA title in February 1999, when she beat France's Amelie Mauresmo on carpet at the Open Gaz de France.

She made a slow start in Auckland, with Pegula taking a 3-1 lead in the first set, before recovering to win the next five games and close out the opening set.

Williams broke the unseeded Pegula's serve early in the second set and converted her fourth match point to ensure victory.

She celebrated on court with her daughter, Olympia, with whom she was eight weeks pregnant when she won her last Grand Slam title in Melbourne.

Williams was also in the doubles final with Caroline Wozniacki, but the two were beaten 6-4 6-4 by Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend in the doubles final.

In Brisbane, Karolina Pliskova successfully defended her title with a 6-4 4-6 7-5 win over American Madison Keys.

Singles world number one Ashleigh Barty - who is donating all her prize money to the bushfire appeal - and her doubles partner Kiki Bertens lost their final against Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-wei 3-6 7-6 (9-7) 10-8.

Ten years on, table tennis firmly established

Published in Table Tennis
Saturday, 11 January 2020 23:41

Year by year, month by month, the sport in the country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic, is ever stronger.

In the past decade assistance has been received from the International Olympic Committee and the ITTF Development Programme; notably Sarah Hanffou, the initiator of Jeux Sans Frontières has visited and conducted coaching courses.

There are now 13 clubs involving some 300 players affiliated; a General Assembly is held each year during which the Annual Operation Programme is submitted to all members for discussion and approval. The next General Assembly is scheduled for Sunday 9th February.

Organisation

The Executive Committee of the Haitian Table Tennis Federation has nine members:

  • Ralph Kernisant, President
  • Frantz Jacques, 1st Vice-President
  • Guy Monpoint, 2nd Vice-President, resigned
  • Bukford Demosthenes, General Secretary
  • Jude Alix Patrick Salomon, Deputy General Secretary
  • Erick Valbrun, Treasurer
  • Lino Roberto Georges, Assistant Treasurer
  • Pierre-Felix Mesidor, Advisor
  • Frantz Saint-Fort, Advisor

Each year the Federation organises three major competitions:

  • Inter school tournament,
  • National Team Tournament
  • Haiti Open 2019.

Recently the Haitian Tennis Table Federation held a Level One Coach Education Course at the Centre for Hope; however, for such initiatives new venues must be sought.

Coach

Meanwhile, Leonel Pomares, a Cuban coach, has been appointed as part of the Pan-Am Sport Project.

The goal is to raise overall standards by organising training camps and educating coaches; the eventual target is to have professional players in the national team in order to be able to compete on the international stage.

Looking ahead, in order to progress the Federation needs equipment to increase participation and develop a programme for schools. Umpires and referees courses are also on the agenda.

In 2020 Haiti aims to compete in regional tournaments, the longer term objective being to qualify players for the 2022 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

Haiti Open

Supported by the National Olympic Committee, on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December, the 2019 Haiti Open, the seventh edition, was staged in the Vincent Gymnasium, a total of 62 men and 12 women competed.

Emily Whitlock lets her emotions explode as she celebrates beating home hope Amanda Sobhy at Grand Central Terminal

‘I was lost out there but the last three games showed how well I’ve been playing’
By SEAN REUTHE – Squash Mad Correspondent

World No.27 Emily Whitlock claimed one of the biggest wins of her career as she completed a stunning comeback from two games down at New York’s Grand Central Terminal to beat US No.1 Amanda Sobhy on day three of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions.

The 2016 Tournament of Champions finalist Sobhy was dominant in the opening two games to storm into a commanding lead inside 20 minutes. However, it took just as long for Whitlock to get back on level terms as the 25-year-old varied the pace and hit the American with a number of lobs.

A shellshocked Sobhy, the World No.7, wasn’t able to read Whitlock’s game in the fifth either as the Colwyn Bay resident completed a 5-11, 1-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-7 triumph to reach the third round of this tournament for the first time.

“The last three games were a symbol of how I’ve been playing towards the end of last year,” said Whitlock, a former World No.12.

“I’ve really been working on everything, no injuries and being mentally and physically strong. I was so lost out there and seeing it a bit late in those first two games and she was just so dominant. I think I maybe saw the ball a bit quicker, hit the ball a bit cleaner on the racket and it just seemed to go my way.

“My coach said to me when I won yesterday: ‘You’re playing Saturday night, prime time, under the chandeliers in Grand Central Terminal in front of one of the best crowds on the tour’. Even if I’m the away player, I could hear people shouting my name, it just couldn’t have been a better time to win.”

Whitlock will look to replicate her performance against Sobhy when she takes on World No.13 Alison Waters, with 2015 runner-up Waters beating Egypt’s Nadine Shahin 3-0. Waters has won six of seven matches against Whitlock, but the latter did claim a memorable victory at the 2017 British Open to reach her first major quarter-final.

Camille Serme is pumped up about winning

Meanwhile, 2017 winner Camille Serme had to dig into her mental reserves as she came through an entertaining five-game battle with two-time World Junior Champion Rowan Elaraby, winning 11-8, 3-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7 in 59 minutes.

The 19-year-old Elaraby combined talent with spirit as she twice came back from a game down to level, with Serme needing to fight hard to finally get the win over the line in the deciding game. The World No.5 will go up against another Egyptian, Yathreb Adel, in the last 16.

“It was tough, and I knew I had everything to lose and she had nothing to lose,” said Serme afterwards.

“We prepared this match very well with all of my staff, I think today it was about being more precise than her and not giving her any angles, because every time she had an angle – she’s Egyptian so she hits very good shots.”

The 2015 winner Raneem El Welily got her title challenge under way with a comfortable 3-0 win over Serme’s compatriot Coline Aumard, while World No.3 Nouran Gohar dispatched South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller in straight games.

Hania El Hammamy and Annie Au were the other women’s victors on day three.

Joel Makin takes out Diego Elias

In the men’s tournament, another seeded player saw his campaign come to an end as Peru’s World No.6 Diego Elias fell to Welshman Joel Makin after five entertaining games.

A day after No.8 seed Mohamed Abouelghar bowed out to young Egyptian Mostafa Asal, Makin sent another seed crashing to an early defeat as the World No.12 outlasted Elias after 78 minutes of action, coming back from 2-1 down to win 6-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7.

“If you’re outside the top eight then you can get these draws at any time,” said Makin. “I’ve had two of those in a row now but if I want to get up to the top eight then I have to start beating those guys and do it anyway, I’m glad I did that and hopefully the draw has opened up a little bit. It’s still tough against James [Willstrop] being a quality player and he won this tournament ten years ago.”

Mohamed ElShorbagy in action against Ryan Cuskelly, who announced his retirement from the PSA Tour after the match

Former World No.1 James Willstrop stands in Makin’s way after he beat Scotland’s Greg Lobban in straight games, while two-time winner Mohamed ElShorbagy began his tournament with a 3-0 victory over Australia’s Ryan Cuskelly.

New York-based Cuskelly, playing his final PSA tournament, beat ElShorbagy on this court two years ago, but the Egyptian was firing on all-cylinders as he closed out an 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 win to set up a third round meeting with France’s Gregoire Marche, who fought through illness to beat Egypt’s Zahed Salem 3-2.

“Ryan has been one of the most hard working athletes that I have come across,” said ElShorbagy following his win.

“He got to two Platinum event semi-finals and the way he got up to World No.12 was unbelievable because the way he worked was something for all juniors to look up to and I hope he really enjoys retirement and time with his family now. I remember two years ago that he has beaten me on this court. I had to switch off from that and think about what I needed to do.”

The 2017 winner Karim Abdel Gawad came back from a game down to defeat Spain’s Iker Pajares Bernabeu, and he will play England’s Declan James in the last 16. Germany’s Simon Rösner and India’s Saurav Ghosal were the other winners and they will go head-to-head for a place in the quarter-finals.

The men’s third round begins today (Sunday), while round two action of the women’s event continues. Action at Grand Central Terminal begins at 12 noon (GMT-5) and will be shown live on SQUASHTV (rest of world), Eurosport Player (Europe only) and the official Facebook page of the PSA World Tour.

BRITWATCH: Some classic encounters still to come, with James Willstrop meeting Joel Makin and Emily Whitlock tackling Alison Waters.

Willstrop was delighted to have partner Vanessa Atkinson and son Logan at courtside as he beat Greg Lobban. Willstrop revealed: “It’s great to be able to play in front of my son [Logan], I’ve always been vocal about this venue, it’s my favourite. I love coming here and so Vanessa and I wanted to get him here before I’m done, so he’s come as my physical trainer. He does my exercises with me in the morning!”

“I can’t start opening up the court, I’m too big for that,” added Willstrop. “I have to make sure I put him in those back corners and if I do then I have a chance and if not then I’m in a right mess.

“I was trying to look for the chance to attack. I want to play attacking squash, I don’t want to play it down the walls all day. But it’s hard against players like that, he’s stopping you from doing it and I was trying to look for openings, but I probably went a bit too early in the third.”

Declan James faces former word champion Karim Abdel Gawad tomorrow after beating Tsz Fung Yip at New York’s River Club.

Today’s women’s schedule sees England’s Victoria Lust up against Sabrina Sobhy, who will have added incentive to win after big sister Amanda went down to Whitlock. Also flying the Stars and Stripes will be Olivia Blatchford Clyne, who is up against No.9 seed Tesni Evans of Wales.

Julianne Courtice tackles No.6 seed Joelle King (New Zealand) and No.8 seed Sarah-Jane Perry plays Nele Gillis of Belgium.

Super Tour Kicks Off At Sebring

SEBRING, Fla. — The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour season opened Saturday at Sebring Int’l Raceway during an event hosted by SCCA’s Central Florida Region.

The day featured qualifying followed by 25-minute timed races on the 17-turn, 3.74-mile internationally renowned circuit.

With age may come experience, but there’s no substitute for talent. That was clear at the front of the Formula F field, where 16-year-old Dylan Christie, driving the No. 82 Mygale SJ13, and 15-year old Mac Clark, in a Mygale SJ2013H, gapped the field during Saturday’s race.

Clark started on pole but on lap eight of 11 in the 25-minute race, Christie found his way into the lead and held on for a 0.053-margin of victory.

The win came in the first Hoosier Super Tour appearance for Christie, who hails from Princeton, N.J. In fact, it was just his second public appearance behind the wheel of a race car. Christie drove in the Central Florida Region’s Turkey Trot event at the end of 2019 after a successful karting career before graduating to the Super Tour schedule.

“We had a pretty decent gap, so I decided to make the majority of the race a game of wait and be patient,” Christie said. “We had a great battle on the last lap.”

The GT-1 class did their best impression of a Spec Miata race on Saturday at Sebring, with Daniel Urrutia, David Pintaric and Claudio Burtin running nose to tail for nearly the length of the race. In the end, Urrutia and his No. 3 Mustang Vacuum Coating/Saenz Transmissions Chevrolet Corvette C7 earned a hard-fought victory over Pintaric’s Cadillac CTS-V and Burtin’s Chevrolet Camaro.

“We’ve got some top-level cars from Trans Am here,” Urriuta said. “It was a three-race-car tandem the entire race. We had a blast and I just drove the wheels off and brought it home.”

Contingency Check In: With the advent of the new season, the SCCA Contingency Program rewards strong finishes by competitors from a variety of manufacturers, programs and retail stores. Drivers are responsible for any pre-registration and post-race program managements that are set by the issuing company, but the rewards can help offset the cost of a race weekend.

Mazda Motorsports dished out some contingency money in Group 2 alone on Saturday at Sebring. The No. 9 Ocean Machinery/Nelson Engines/OPM Autosports/G-Loc Brakes Super Touring® Lite car of Danny Steyn, the No. 1 Touring 3 car of Sellin Rolan, and Touring 4 competitor Michael Borden in the No. 42 Coinigy/ Advanced Autosports car all grabbed wins in the same race, each driving a different version of the MX-5 Mazda.

Engineering Excellence: Production category cars can be notoriously finicky. Kip Van Steenburg’s No. 4 German Excellence Porsche 944 ran flawlessly at VIRginia International Raceway last October for a National Championship in E Production. That continued in his win on Saturday at Sebring, but it wasn’t without drama.

“My window net came down twice,” Van Steenburg said after the race.

Each time, Van Steenburg had to pull to the side of the track and reattach the net to prevent a black flag from ending his race. He still held on for a victory.

The Sebring Hoosier Super Tour always brings a top-notch Spec Miata field, with 54 on hand in 2020. Former National Champions Preston Pardus, Jim Drago and Danny Steyn were joined in a four-car battle by Tyler Gonzalez. End the end it was Pardus, in the No. 42 Danus Utilities/East Street Racing/5x Racing car, who was followed by Drago and Gonzalez in order on the podium.

“Me, Jim and Tyler had a great battle, and then Danny joined in there,” Pardus said. “We had a two-on-two battle, and luckily I was able to manage my gap over Jim until the last lap. He got a big run down the backstretch and got to me, but I hit (turn) 17 pretty good and was able to pull it off at the end.”

Brian Schofield is a regular in the Spec Racer Ford Gen3 (SRF3) field and an annual contender at the SCCA Runoffs. Schofield, in the No. 61 PM Racing car, won SRF3 Saturday by 2.581 seconds. The shortened race experienced a 40-minute stoppage when two cars tangled through Sebring’s tight final turn. With the field already bunched, three more drivers drove into the fray, leaving a boneyard of bent metal. All drivers walked away from the incident unharmed.

“I’m bummed for all the guys,” Schofield said. “It looked like a pretty nasty wreck. I hate it because all the guys from the Northeast come here to sunny Florida, and we get a red flag and don’t get all of our laps. I just wanted to see that checkered flag, to be honest with you. I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow.”

Fall-Line Motorsports ace Mark Boden was the only driver to take two wins on Saturday. Boden scored a win in Touring 1 driving the No. 47 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW E92 M3, and a second victory in Touring 2 piloting the No. 32 Fall-Line Motorsports Porsche 997.1 C2 vehicle.
