Raducanu 'scraps' in Miami to earn best win of season

Raducanu continues to be without a full-time coach after she ended a short-lived trial with Slovakian Vladimir Platenik earlier this week.
Against Navarro, she had Mark Petchey - a well-known figure in British tennis circles who worked with her as a teenager - offering coaching advice from her box.
Raducanu's representatives described Petchey as a "familiar face" who was providing "support".
It is not clear, though, how long the arrangement will go on for.
Petchey, 54, also coached Andy Murray in the early part of the three-time major champion's professional career, before becoming a prominent television commentator and analyst.
He watched the match against Navarro alongside Raducanu's team, which consists of long-time ally Jane O'Donoghue and fitness trainer Yutaka Nakamura in Florida.
"I came here with someone and it didn't work out, but we put in some great work," said Raducanu, who plays 48th-ranked American McCartney Kessler in the last 32.
"I have good friends here with me, who know my game and know me so well - it's about trusting your gut and trusting your feeling.
"I think that's how I got through to be honest."

Déjà Vu For Menard
For the second year in a row, Paul Menard kicked off the season with a victory, driving to GYM WEED Winners Circle in his No. 3 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Ford Mustang at Sebring International Raceway. After winning the season opener in 2024, Menard went on the claim the TA championship on the strength of six wins and nine podium finishes.
Another Tough Start For Dyson
Another driver experiencing déjà vu is three-time TA champion Chris Dyson (No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang). Once again, Dyson unloaded a fast car at Sebring, but his day ended in a hard crash due to a mechanical failure. Relegated to an eighth-place finish in class, Dysons pursuit of his fourth Trans Am title begins with a points deficit, as he currently sits 33 markers behind leader Paul Menard. However, given his dominance in the series since his first title season in 2021, its nothing that Dyson cant overcome between now and the season finale at Circuit of The Americas.
Drissi Hoping for Another Podium at Road Atlanta
Road Atlanta is a track where Tomy Drissi (No. 8 Trench Shoring Co./Motul Chevrolet Camaro) has found lots of success in the past in Trans Am and beyond. Drissi scored podium finishes at the Braselton, Ga. facility in four of the last six years in TA, with finishes of second in 2019, 2020 and 2022, and a third-place finish in 2023. Drissi also found his way to the Road Atlanta podium many times in IMSAs WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, earning a victory in the Petit Le Mans in 2017, as well as earning two second-place finishes and one third-place result. Joining Drissi under the Drissi Motorsports banner this weekend is Keith Grant (No. 7 Trench Shoring Co./Motul Chevrolet Camaro), who earned a podium for the team there last year with a third-place finish.
Burtin Hosts CCYA Guests
This weekend at Road Atlanta, Burtin Racing team owner Claudio Burtin, who fields the No. 17 Top Liner Chevrolet Camaro for Adam Andretti, will be hosting approximately 40 guests from the Center for Children and Young Adults (CCYA). CCYA is a 40-bed residential facility in Marietta, Ga. that provides safe housing and basic needs to children and young adults who have been abused, neglected, exploited or abandoned. The organization offers a full array of supportive housing services, such as emergency and temporary shelter programs and transitional and independent living for youth and young adults. CCYA feeds, houses, teaches and nurtures up to 100 youth each year. For more information, visit ccyakids.org.
Crews Wins Between Races
Since kicking off his first full-time season in the TA class, Brent Crews (No. 70 Nitro Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro) captured a checkered flag on an oval track. Crews competed in his first race with Joe Gibbs Racing in the ARCA Menards Series at Phoenix Raceway, where he had a late-rate comeback to score his third-career win in the series. With two previous ARCA victories, both on dirt tracks, Crews win at Phoenix was his first on a pavement track.
New Colors for Joshua Carlson
SGTs Joshua Carlson kicked off the 2025 season with new colors on his No. 36 Enseva/Diercks Ltd/TC Fab Ford Mustang. Carlson secured a new sponsor in Vivid Auto Wraps with Auggi Jimenez in his home state of Iowa and opted for a new blue wrap to pay homage to the Ford Mustangs Detroit roots. It seems to be bringing the team good luck, as Carlson piloted to the win in the SGT class in the season opener at Sebring International Raceway.
Rob Dickey Joins GT1 Challenge
Making his Trans Am debut this weekend is GT1 Challenge competitor Rob Dickey in the No. 64 Forty48 Competition Chevrolet Camaro. Dickey comes to Trans Am from SCCA and SVRA, but has also raced karts, motorcycles and standup Jet Skis. Dickey has dreamed of racing in Trans Am since he was a kid, but that goal became more important to him when a close friend hed shared that dream with passed away. This weekend he finally gets to make his dream a reality.

CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series
Toyota Camry Comes to TA2
This weekend will see the debut of a new manufacturer in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series: Toyota. For the past several months, TRD has worked closely with Five Star RaceCar Bodies and Trans Am officials on the design, development and production of the Toyota Camry. The culmination of their hard work will be showcased this weekend, where two Toyota Camrys are set to compete. Toyota Development Driver Tyler Gonzalez will pilot the No. 10 Mobil 1 Camry for Nitro Motorsports, while Sebring winner Thomas Annunziata will debut a GR livery on his No. 90 Nitro Motorsports Camry.
Both Toyota drivers have been busy since the Sebring season opener. Gonzalez won the MX-5 Cup race at St. Petersburg, while Annunziata made a NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Circuit of The Americas with Cope Family Racing in partnership with Nitro Motorsports team owner Nick Tucker.
Jordan Menzin Joins Silver Hare
Silver Hare Racing announced this week that it has signed Jordan Menzin to a part-time schedule in the Pro/Am Challenge this season. Menzin is an accomplished competitor in the World Racing Leagues Supra GT4, as well as driving LMP3s in IMSAs VP Challenge. He made his Trans Am debut in the TA2 season opener at Sebring International Raceway. In his first start for Silver Hare this weekend, Menzin will pilot the No. 5 Silver Hare Racing/Waukegan Farms Chevrolet.
Rob Clifton Returns to TA2
This weekend will see the return of Rob Clifton to CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series competition. Clifton made his debut at Road Atlanta in 2023 and returns to pilot the No. 8 Team SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro. A native of Evans, Ga., Clifton is a former Auburn football player who was recently voted into the Georgia State House of Representatives for his first term during the November election. The second-generation racer has previously competed in Spec Formula Fords in SCCA.
Odrick Debuts New Racecar
Jared Odrick comes to Road Atlanta armed with a brand new M1 Racecars chassis this weekend. The Pro/Am Challenge contender recently took delivery of a new No. 00 Black Underwear Chevrolet Camaro, which will make its Trans Am debut this weekend. Odrick stretched the cars legs at the SCCA Super Tour race at Road Atlanta earlier this month, winning both GT2 races from the pole.
Skeen to Compete Full Time in 2025
Another new M1 Racecars chassis hitting the track this weekend is the No. 2 Guthries Garage Chevrolet Camaro, which will be driven by 2020 CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series champion Mike Skeen for the remainder of the season. Skeen has been tagged by team owner and TA2 competitor Jim Guthrie to take his seat for the remainder of the season while Guthrie recovers from a shoulder injury. After sitting on the pole with a record-breaking time and finishing second in the season opener at Sebring, Skeen is poised to battle for his second title this year. Skeen has four previous victories at Road Atlanta, including a doubleheader sweep in 2020. His most recent victory at the track came in 2022.
Gian Buffomante Hoping to Channel Father at Road Atlanta
Third-generation driver Gian Buffomante is hoping to channel his father, 2016 TA2 champion Tony Buffomante, this weekend when he gets behind the wheel of his No. 95 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang. The elder Buffomante has two victories at Road Atlanta, standing atop the podium in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. Gian, who has Tony in his ear when he spots for him on race weekends, considers his father to be his racing hero.
Lovell & Boes Earn Podiums on West Coast
Mia Lovell (No. 40 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) and Barry Boes (No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Chevrolet Camaro) competed in the Western Championship season opener last weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, with both finding success with podiums at the California track. Lovell finished second and Boes finished third in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.
Pro/Am Drivers With Past Road Atlanta Success
There are a few Pro/Am Challenge drivers in this weekends race who have found success at Road Atlanta in other disciplines of racing.
Cale Phillips (No. 99 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) has several NASA wins at the track between 2018 and 2020.
Matt Griffin (No. 67 Griffin Concrete Construction Chevrolet Camaro) has won at the track in SCCA. Griffin was the 2024 SCCA SeDIV SARRC champion, as well as the 2024 SCCA CFR GT1 champion.

HOMESTEAD, Fla. The NASCAR Cup Series returns east to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Straight Talk Wireless 400 the weekends NASCAR tripleheader marking the first time since 2021 the series has competed on the South Florida track in the spring.
It remains to be seen if the 1.5-miler popular among competitors will race differently this weekend in the warm March Florida sun versus how it races in the Fall when the series typically visited more recently.
Regardless of the timing, a good weekend has proven to be a good weekend at Homestead. Six of the last seven race winners have led the most laps. That comes in sharp contrast to the current early season. Only once in the five 2025 races has the winner led the most laps Joe Gibbs Racings Christopher Bells victory at Phoenix.
Hendrick Motorsports is certainly hoping its track record continues to prove successful at Homestead. The team has led 54 percent of all laps in the Next Gen Era there and Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 HMS Chevrolet, has led the most laps (626) of any active driver.
His work on the 1.5-milers is especially impressive. Larsons 12 stage wins in the Next Gen car is a series-best. No other driver has more than five stage wins.
Larsons 1,286 total miles led on the 1.5-mile tracks is almost double that of any other driver. Bell is second on the list with 614 laps out front.
Larsons Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Daytona 500 winner William Byron not only holds the championship points lead by 29 points over the seasons three-time winner Bell but is the only driver to run out front in every race this season. He has led laps in the last seven races the longest consecutive streak for a driver in the series since 2019.
This weekend Larson will have plenty of time on track even before Sundays green flag. He will be doing rare triple-duty work competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on Friday (in the No. 07 Spire Chevrolet), the Xfinity Series on Saturday (No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet) in addition to Sundays NASCAR Cup Series race.
He is attempting to become only the second driver to earn a weekend three-peat. Kyle Busch won in all three national series at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway twice in 2010 and 2017.
I always feel good going to Homestead, said Larson, who won at Homestead in 2022. Its probably the track that suits me the best, you know, being comfortable running against the wall and stuff like that. So, yeah, the last two finishes (34th and 13th) weve had there dont reflect how weve ran. Weve been the best every time we go there.
We were stupid fast there the second- half of the fall race last time we were there with a bunch of damage underneath the car that you cant see. So that was a satisfying run to almost have a shot to win there. But hopefully this year it goes smooth; we have a good handling race car, which I know we will, and we can just hammer away at the wall and be fast.
A victory Sunday for 2025s three-trophy winner Bell would be his fourth in the opening six races a high-achieving season start accomplished only twice previously: by NASCAR Hall of Famers Bill Elliott (1992) and Dale Earnhardt (1987).
23XI Racings Tyler Reddick is the defending race winner, claiming the victory from pole position last October; the second driver (also his team co-owner Hamlin) to win from pole in the last five Homestead races.
Interestingly, there hasnt been a back-to-back race winner at Homestead in the last 19 years when Greg Biffle won three straight from 2004-06.
Trackhouse Racings Ross Chastain claims Homestead as his home track. Its about two hours south of his Alva, Fla. hometown. The popular driver is coming off his first top-five (fifth place) of the season at Las Vegas last week.
The weather in South Florida is beautiful and its fun to have so many friends and family at the track, said Chastain, who plans to drive to Homestead after visiting home. I think Homestead provides some great racing and the ability to run up by the wall. I was there last week for an event at the track and got to meet different people from the community. I enjoy it anytime I get the chance to go to South Florida.
Chandler Smith Enjoys Transition Back To Truck Series

HOMESTEAD, Fla. After two full seasons, which included a trio of victories, in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Chandler Smith has returned to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this season.
Smith has amassed three top-10 finishes in three races in the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford and ranks fourth in the standings entering Fridays event at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Smith shared his teams story with the media Friday afternoon. Smiths return to the series as the second driver (Layne Riggs) in the Front Row stable came only a few weeks before the season began.
I think we finally finished the hiring process two weeks before Daytona, maybe a week and a half before Daytona on our last guy, Smith explained. We didnt get our crew chief hired until maybe two weeks, maybe three weeks out of Daytona, so it definitely was very last-minute, but I couldnt be happier with the group that we assembled, honestly. I mean, its turned out great. Everybody is working together great. Weve got really fast trucks. Weve got a lot of motivated individuals that are on our team and I feel like in the position that Im in, Im looking at this as helping to build this program up a little bit.
Ive taken it on my shoulders a little more to step up to that role even more than I have in years past, just like last year being at Gibbs well established and respected organization, Smith added. Its kind of just a plug-and-play deal. This was not a plug-and-play deal. This was a lot more than just that. Its definitely been an experience. I wouldnt change it for anything and Im super grateful for the opportunity that Bob Jenkins and Jerry Freeze has given me.
Smith was a five-time Truck Series winner with Kyle Busch Motorsports before trying his hand at the Xfinity Series and Cup Series.
They drive the same as what they did a few years ago when I was in them, Smith said. Obviously, Im driving for a different organization. They have different approaches on setups and different approaches on how they build their race trucks compared to where I was in years past, so its been adjusting to that a little bit and taking whats worked for them in the past and whats worked for me in the past and different organizations and kind of bringing it together and coming up with an even better product. Thats kind of where were at right now. I felt like Las Vegas was our first race.
It was a good read. It felt like both me and Layne got a really good data point of where we were and what we needed to do. My crew chief, Jon Leonard, we both talked and had some great ideas going forward and hopefully we can see how good they turn out today. Weve implemented some changes, but its definitely a lot different than what Ive been accustomed to for the past two years.
Smith described what he things he needs to be competitive at Homesteads 1.5-mile speedway.
It just needs maneuverability. Thats all Truck racing is now, he noted. Youre running so much throttle time, granted youre not gonna have a bunch of throttle time here at Homestead, but to go after the pole in three and four youre gonna barely be lifting at all, so youre still running a lot of throttle time, so being able to have good maneuverability and good lateral grip is pretty key for here.

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers lost both a game and another superstar Thursday, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Winnipeg Jets after Connor McDavid left with a lower-body injury.
McDavid exited following a second-period collision with Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey.
The Oilers were already without NHL-leading goal scorer Leon Draisaitl (lower body). Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said Friday that both players will likely be out at least a week.
"I'd say day to day, maybe a week (for McDavid) and Leon same kind of timeline," Knoblauch said. "They'll be probably out up to a week."
The Oilers also lost starting goaltender Stuart Skinner late in the third period against the Jets, but Knoblauch said he will be available Saturday against the Seattle Kraken.
Skinner was pulled by the concussion spotter, a decision Knoblauch said postgame he would not have made. Skinner also disagreed with the decision.
"Stu is fine and eligible to play tomorrow night," added Knoblauch.
Draisaitl, who leads the league with 49 goals, was hurt Tuesday in Edmonton's 7-1 win over Utah. He showed some discomfort but finished the game.
"They reevaluated and figured out it was more than they anticipated," Knoblauch said on Draisaitl's injury.
Veteran forward Derek Ryan, who was called up Tuesday but hasn't played, will likely slot into the lineup Saturday.
Jeff Skinner, a former 40-goal scorer, stepped up by scoring twice in a bigger role.
"It was only a matter of time before he put the puck in the net," Knoblauch said.
Skinner has been a healthy scratch several times this season after signing as a free agent in the summer.
The 32-year-old has 13 goals in 59 games this season.
"He's done it so many times, and we need them," Knoblauch said. "Especially right now with the injuries that we have, we'll need guys stepping up. And he's one of those guys we'll be looking to play a big role."
Evander Kane, on long-term injured reserve after undergoing abdominal surgery in September and knee surgery in January, is back skating with the team.
For now, he has been practicing in small groups and participating in light skates, but his progression seems "optimistic," according to Knoblauch.
"He'll be joining regular practices, and you know he's been putting in the work and getting ready to play, and hopefully sometime during the playoffs, he's available for us," he said.
"He's a world-class athlete, world-class player. Last year, he battled through a lot of injuries and now surgeries. Hopefully, he can be healthy and ready for us. Obviously, he could make a huge impact on our team."

LONDON -- Myles Lewis-Skelly made history on Friday by becoming the youngest player to score on his senior debut for England when he found the back of the net in the Three Lions' victory over Albania at Wembley Stadium.
The 18-year-old was handed his first appearance for the national team by Thomas Tuchel, who was also taking charge of his first game as England manager, following his impressive displays for Arsenal.
Lewis-Skelly had Jude Bellingham to thank for his moment of history in the 20th minute. The Real Madrid midfielder found the full-back's run with a perfectly weighted through ball, which the teenager expertly finished by rolling the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.
The goal saw Lewis-Skelly (18 years and 176 days) surpass Marcus Rashford's previous record (18 years and 209 days), which was set in a 2-1 victory over Australia in 2016.
"He was amazing. In camp [he is] full of confidence and very, very full of humour and such an open and mature character," Tuchel said in his post-match news conference. "You see everything, what you see on the pitch, you see off the pitch. So he was straight away a part of the group, very impressive.
"He does it with a natural confidence and this is how he plays football. It's a great performance. He's full of courage, full of quality and even more so that he could be with his little run behind the line, be decisive and open this game for us even better was amazing."
Lewis-Skelly only made his first Premier League start in December but his rapid progress has caught the eye of Tuchel.
"He's a fantastic football player," Tuchel added. "If you see him in the possession games in training, the level of first touches, the quality of first touches, the quality of the body movement, how he opens up his body and where he plays the passes ... A very high understanding of the game comes very natural to him.
"So I think he's very versatile. He can do I think a lot of things. We tried to play a bit more conventional today because it's easier to learn. We have of course like everyone else, many players from many different clubs and he did very well. He can adapt because he understands very quickly."
England won the World Cup qualifying Group K opener 2-0, with Harry Kane scoring the home side's second goal in the 77th minute.

A&M's Williams addresses 'dangerous' online hate

DENVER -- Texas A&M basketball coach Buzz Williams said Friday he has had discussions with Aggies guard Jace Carter, as well as Carter's parents and teammates about Carter's revelation he had been the target of death threats and racial slurs on social media this season.
Texas A&M advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with an 80-71 win over Yale Thursday night in Ball Arena. After the victory, in an interview with KBTX-TV, Carter outlined how it had been "a long year'' for him.
"It's been crazy,'' Carter said in the locker room interview. "Been getting death threats, people calling me racial slurs, all types of stuff because I'm missing free throws, missing shots. If you're a little kid and not mentally strong it can mess you up, but I feel like I try to approach it like a grown man.''
The senior guard played nine minutes in Thursday's win over the Bulldogs and finished 10 points.
"I'm just happy I could help us win,'' Carter added in the interview. " ... It's hard, especially when it's coming from your own fanbase ... it does get challenging at times, but at the end of the day I'm comfortable with who I am as a man, who I am as a basketball player.''
Williams was asked Friday about Carter's comments as well as his players' participation in social media overall.
"Yeah, it's been a topic that has been more prevalent than ever in my career,'' Williams said. "But I have spent more time with our players on their reaction of others than I ever have. I think that's probably what comes with this now, the opinion of others seems to influence so much of decision-making.
" ... I've tried to handle that right with Jace's dad, Jace's mom. Just so that you don't think that it's (just) Jace, that conversation has happened with multiple players within our organization multiple times ... That's why I've kind of quit social media, just because of the things that were coming towards me. It's just dangerous.''
Williams said he has tried to advise his players how to handle all they might see about themselves on social media, including what they may post themselves. He added he had "two conversations today about it'' in reaction to what Carter had revealed after Thursday's game.
"I think when you're 22 and you've grown up with a screen, you can't tell 'em 'don't look','' Williams said. "But you have to try to find ways to educate them on how to handle it. I think the thing that bothers our group, and all groups, is when it's coming from what they think are on the inside, I think that's where their heart posture changes, like, I thought they were cheering for us ... I think because we've tried to handle it in a very open way, our guys feel comfortable talking to me about it.
